The fireworks in the neighborhood is starting tonight. Katie is going CRAZY!
I HATE those stupid things!
Katie is barking and barking like a mad little Westie.
Are the rest of you all going thru this?
Not much sleep for me tonight...

To really top it off...tomorrow night a park near us is having a HUGE fireworks display and we can see them on our deck and hear all of the NOISE.
Oh man, I dread that.

Oh Leslie, I am so sorry that you and Katie have to go through that.
Have you tried Rescue Remedy for Katie? It would calm her down. Works wonders on pups who hate fireworks.

Here is Rescue Remedy's official site.
At the top of the page are some links.
Look for the one that says "Product Information".

When you move your mouse over that link, a drop down menu appears.

First item on that menu is a link for "Where to Buy". Click on that and you will be taken to a webpage where you input your zip code.

Hopefully, there will be some place near you that sells Rescue Remedy.
It is 100% herbal medicine that has a calming effect on people and animals.

I don't know off hand.
There are two kinds of Rescue Remedy.
There is the regular stuff and then there is Rescue Remedy for pets.
The difference is that Rescue Remedy for Pets has no alcohol.

The alcohol in a dose of the regular Rescue Remedy is so small that it doesn't matter.

I'll ask someone how much to give Katie and get back to you. Hopefully tonight.

Yep - - starting here too....she's not crazy until I let her out to do her business - - then she barks and we have found she can actually run backward following one of the fireworks in the sky...

Been going through it for a week and last night was our town fireworks. They never bothered her in the past. I believe it's the sudden loud noise. I took her to "the viewing" (The tree farm we walk in overlooks the CT River where the barge is) and she was more interested in the neighbors there than the noise. I wish there was an answer for what to do (because I could use a remedy too).

It is starting here too. Lily and I were outside on the patio the other evening, not expecting anything, when all of sudden BOOOOM!! We both nearly jumped out of our skin.

We also live near the lake and our town does a yearly fireworks display on the water. We can stand on our patio and see the fireworks and of course there's lots of noise. All of the doggies in the neighborhood get upset. I'm always relieved for them when the fireworks are done.

Leslie...try taking her out and letting her sit on your lap and see what's going on. Have her on a leash, of course in case she tries to get away. Linda tried this with Lily and it worked.

Rescue Remedy didn't work for
us...

I know, I REALLY hate it for Tucker. I don't think it will affect Zoe as much, but Tucker is afraid of ALL kinds of outside noises...lawnmowers, weedeaters, blowers, and we occasionally hear gunshots because we are near a wooded area...he freaks out over all these noises so fireworks are going to be a nightmare for him. I have something called "Pet Ease" that I got at the pet store when we first brought Tucker home. It seemed to help. I'm going to start giving it to him today and hopefully that will help some.

Moshe has been barking already they start here early but so far it has not been too bad. He becomes so hyper and paces up and down . I tried putting him on my lap but he jumps off when he hears it. It really drives him crazy.
When we think it is all over a idiot who lives across the water starts at 3:00 AM and because of the water the sound is even worse.
Levi has no trouble at alwith fireworks or thunder. He does not become crazy or bark.

Good luck to night.

I think I am just going to tough it out. I really hate to give Katie any pills.
I will just keep the windows shut and keep the radio or t.v. on LOUD.
I hope I don't tear all the hair out of my head!

That's a good decision. That's all I've ever done for all my dogs. Have a fan or several fans running too - on high! I'd never give my babies meds for something like that whether they're actual drugs or natural ingredients. The fewer pills the better!

Leslie, we really feel for you and Katie. Teddy was horrific with fireworks and nothing helped, but the only thing that did calm him a little, was rescue rememdy. then we started getting a special one made up for him with mimmulus, and something else. I used to want to smash up the stalls selling fireworks, I was always so angry as I couldn't bear to see Teddy suffer so and like you say it wouldn't be so bad if it was only one day.

Starting tonight also in my neighborhood. Believe it or not you are not allowed to shoot them off in Ohio but everyone does it anyway. My Amy goes nuts. Alex and Mickey don't mind. Linda

The fireworks stands went up last Saturday so we've had them every night since then. The girls hate them so I keep them indoors most of the time. The quieter one's don't bother them, but the loud BOOMS do. Right now Bailie is laying by a window and our next-door neighbors are shooting off fireworks and Bailie is snoozing and so is Kailie. Tomorrow night while we're at our family barbecue the girls will be here at home and gated downstairs in the basement hallway. That's the quietest point in the house. We know from previous years that they do fine down there. I love the fireworks, but I hate what they do to our furkids.

We keep all the windows closed. Turn the AC on and crank the volume on the TV and watch a good long movie. The big booms will make the pups jump up to see what is going on, but the loud tv seems to cover most sounds.

It is supposed to be ILLEGAL here in Southern California and they have upped the fine for possession or use to $1,000. The supposedly upped the patrols for the week around the 4th. But people still fire off fireworks. (which is STUPID . . .things are really dry around here and this just ups the fire hazards)

Come on people . . not worth it! Drives me crazy.

Hope you all fair well.

Joni
