We've been bitten! Vote for this post

. . . By a love bug! I know it might seem to be too soon, but this little guy caught our attention and we are going to meet him, hopefully on Wednesday. He is described as a terrier/ corgi mix, and is 2 years old. Currently called Teddy. He became available for adoption yesterday but we were not aware of that until this morning. We're hoping he wasn't scooped up by someone yesterday. Please hope he's still available because we are kind of already in love with him and he seems perfect for us.

Will try to post his picture soon. Otherwise, you could try Petfinder. He is at Animal Shelter of Schoharie County. Search for Teddy.

Any guesses on what kind of terrier he resembles? I was thinking Border Terrier, but I think they are very rare in these parts.

UPDATE Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

I spoke with the shelter this morning. "Teddy" currently has two applications pending. Ours will be added tomorrow unless I can figure out a way to get it to them sooner as they are closed until tomorrow. I am going to see if I can email it to them..

What little they could tell me is that he is a "corgi mix" from down south; his owner died. He can be a bit bossy with other dogs, which is not an immediate problem since he'll be an only child. (The only other dogs he would come in contact with would be my son's crew which consists of a chocolate lab, a beagle/basset mix and two corgis and I bet they will keep him in line!)

If the video link works -- this is not Teddy but a pup that looks a lot like him. I found it on youtube.

Please wish us luck with tomorrow!

Cheryl,  Here is a suggestion to help the shelter decide who gets him.
Get there early so you can take him for a walk, brush him out (shelters have the brushes/combs) teach him to sit and heel since those are the easiest commands. If he is really shy, sit with your back to him at the opening of his cage and he will come check you out.  Or if it's too nasty to sit there you can do that outside. The more you are interacting with him in a positive manner, others will not be and the shelter can see what you can offer as a dog parent.  Go back later in the day to spend more time with him and the next day too.

Good luck, I hope he is the one.

Forever Elliot's Kay

Teddy Update Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

Couldn't post today's pic because it was too large, but we did meet "Teddy" today and I think it went pretty well. Trip and I are missing him already -- we spent an hour with him and he's sweet and laid back and adorable!

I am NOT used to laid-back dogs, after nearly 20 years of Westies in my home, so I was a little taken aback by one who wasn't IN MY FACE!

There are 2 other applications in on him. I just really hope they choose us, because the more I think about it, the more I want him as part of our family.

I am not in the ga-ga-head-over-heels phase with this pup but I think he will be good for us and I know we will be good for him.

I know that this means after all these years year as a member and sponsor that I won't be a member anymore, so I just want to say how much I treasure all of you and will still check in from time to time. It'll just be odd not being a member, after all these years -- they have been awesome -- for me and for my pups!

P.S. For those of you who are also on FB, I did post today's picture there.

P.P.S. I asked Roo for a sign/blessing the other night and he rang the wind chimes, so I know we're good.

Cheryl, why would you feel that you couldn't still be a member of TC? There are members here who have lost their terriers and still come here and post. We love hearing what's going on in your life and the fact that you and Roo were members for so long automatically makes you part of the family (at least in my book!)

im keeping everything crossed.   i know what you mean about "in your face"    it was the same for me with the doggy we have now, pip, he is so laid back, but a great personality, after 40 yearsof westies and scotties, he is different, but im sure if you are lucky you will love the different personality.

UPDATE Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

Went to visit Teddy today at the shelter only to fin out that he was adopted a couple of days ago or yesterday. (Two answers from two different people.)

We will not have any more dealings with this shelter. They have (excuse my french) screwed us over one too many times.

And what do you think of a shelter that will not let potential adopters into the kennel area? Does that sound OK to you?

I'm so sorry what a terrible let down. I agree about leaving that particular shelter alone. A few years ago I had the same trouble I travelled a few times too walk a Westie and get too know each other, with the intentions of bringing him home one day, but they did the the dirty and he went to another home, why didn't they let me know others were keen, not the way too run a shelter. I really feel for you.
