A dog attacked Andrew and myself Vote for this post

All normal relaxing day yesterday and Andrew had a little walk around the farm in the morning, then about 5 pm Peter rang to say he was on his way back so Andrew wanted another walk and I said would take him up the lane towards village and meet him,we have been up here many times and sometimes with Nimby...cutting a long story short which is so detailed a man walking to dogs towards us,(at that point I thought did not look too good and thought would turn round and go back as his 2 staffordshire X types started to fight with each other on their leads..one got off and came running towards us so I picked Andrew up on my shoulder but then the other dog of his also came with no lead or collar and pulled Andrew down..the man could not get the dogs off, then he did,I was kicking for all I could at the other dog and trying to get Andrew back up but not being that tall not good news and one the ice and snow the dog got my hand at one point, the he got the dog then he could not control it and I was trying to get back to the farm but it came again and got Andrew once more, nowhere to put him safe as just hedges,a van pulled up but for a few seconds the man sat in it.he thought something bad was happening and did not at first get out I had to shout to tell him what was going on and got Andrew into the van.....cutting the story short again just now,I could not go to get stitches...Peter came back just as I had got home ,Andrew is going to vets this morning,I spoke with them last night ...will explain more later this morning what has happened,he is walking very slowly and so far had a puncture wound to thigh but I suspect his paws and legs pulled about so much, will explain more later why he did not go to vet last night, poor little boy,at one point I thought he would have been killed or had a heart attack,I am trying to keep Nimby calm and jolly as just getting her a bit more normal from her sickie tummy and Dentia which is a bit worse somehow,Please keep us in your thoughts, the dog bite I have should have stitch but not an option at present and hope it will knit back, salt water and dettol to that.
Not a good weekend by any means and still shaken up by not being able to protect him more,The only thing Peter says is that by getting him up at times on my shoulders it prevented worse attacks,It does not bear thinking about if I had wee Nimble with me also!,I am full of anger at the moment also that the man when he knew his dogs were aggressive did not turn back to where he came from which was a Pub in the village!!..speak soon and it maybe this afternoon before I can get back on here...Much Love Annie Nimby and Andrew xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wow that is so bad I am glad you're both okay or as okay as you can be after such an ordeal. Hope Andrew is feeling a little better now. It's such a shock isn't it. I have a real thing about dogs off leash, I never let my 2 off (they are very friendly and very social) the leash in public, but we have been set upon by nuisance dogs and their nuisance owners before luckily no bites etc. But the shock of it all.....

How horrible and frightening, Annie.  It could have been so much worse.  I think Peter should go speak with this guy about paying for the Vet bill & your Doctor's bill with an emphasis on his offer to pay vs being made to pay along with legal fees.  You shouldn't have to pay for these or take chances without these services when he clearly was in the wrong.  I'm fuming mad for you!   Praying for the best outcome to all of this.

We hope all turns out well and you both are not seriously injured.

I carry mace when I walk Riley. I had to start when the dog down the street attacked Sir William and Boomer.

My neighbor has a walking stick wit a sharpened nail in the bottom.

It is a shame we have to be prepared to protect our little ones from assholes who cannot control their dogs.

Sending healing prayers

Annie I so sorry this happened to you and Andrew. It's our worst fear to be attacked while walking our doggies. We want to do anything we can to protect and keep our pups from harm.My heart and prayers go out to you both and hope that your injuries and sweet Andrews heal quickly.

I experienced a dog attack twice when walking my Maddie. Once by a German Shepard when Maddie was just 8 months old and another time in our neighborhood by a collie. I did the same as you ,trying to get away and holding her as high up on my shoulder as I could to protect her. Not worried about myself but scared for my Maddie. I just got big scratches down my stomach, arm and back. Lucky Maddie didn't get wounds from either attack but she was fearful and cautious when it came to walks for a while.
The wounds can heal but the emotions the attack leaves, the fear of it happening takes time to heal. I started carrying a stick and an air horn. And if I seen even a small dog I headed in the opposite direction.I was very upset and angry that the dog owners had their dogs off leash, didn't seem concerned about their dogs aggressive behavior. We have leash laws, some people just don't care.
Sending you both hugs and wishing you both a good recovery.

Love Sandra

Oh Annie, I can't even begin to imagine what was going through your head during all of this! I am praying for both you and Andrew and hoping that your wounds are not serious. Please reconsider going to get stitches in your hand. It's so very easy to get an infection...I hope that idiot with the staffordshires at least offered to pay for your doctor/vet bills! Over here, he'd have his butt hauled into court....I know you'll let us know how you and Andrew are doing when you get a chance. We'll be looking for updates on you both.
Love to you all, Deb, Emmie, and Angel Kelsie

Just about to finally have some dinner,we took Andrew this morning to vets  and waited 20 minutes as he was doing a Caesarean on a sheep and anyway Andrew is walking a bit better today Bless him although stiff,he has two small surface bites either side of his bottom,a small bite skin unbroken on left paw and a puncture wound on his left thigh which just missed his femoral artery,he had an antibiotic jab and tablets to take this week and he goes back for check up on Saturday morning,I have also Booked Nimby in for a check up..Poor Wee Nimby has shown more signs now of ageing and dementia sometimes ..and her little wobbly head shakes. and not quite knowing sometimes where we are in the house...its just ageing as we all know with our pups,...will be back after dinner have taken a pic of bite  on me!...I do hope for a better week coming!...Much love to all and Big Thank you for the support,it really helps to get t out in the open to understanding doggie owners.Annie and Gang  xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh Annie, I'm so glad that Andrew's injuries aren't any worse than they are and hope that your hand doesn't pain you too much. If you don't want to get stitches, maybe a few butterflies would hold it together? It pains my heart to hear that dear Nimby is having more troubles. Bless her little heart, we're all getting older and not quite like we used to be. We are praying the Vet gives you some encouraging news about her and will look for more updates.
Love, Deb, Emmie, and Angel Kelsie

Annie, how scary for you and Andrew.  glad that he is doing okay. I also carry pepper spray with me when walk,   My first westie Buster was attacked by a  very large dog about 140 pounds. he  was okay after a while, but I never felt safe.

Hope all goes will for Nimby , it s not fun watching your dogs age.

will be keeping all of you in thoughts and prayers.

Annie, thinking of you and Andrew.  That makes me so mad just reading it.  I hope everyone is ok and Andrew heals, his wounds and what happened to him.  Can you have pepper spray?  I take that with me when I walk cause you never know.

Big hugs, Rebecca and Connor

Oh Annie how terrifying.  I agree this man should be made to pay your vet and medical bills.  I am glad Andrew is doing better and hope you are healing.  Your experience brought back terrible memories from when we lived in Louisville Kentucky.  The neighbor behind us had three dogs that were always getting out of their yard into my yard.  One time they jumped my 6 foot fence and attacked Spencer and me.  Multiple puncture wounds on me and on Spencer.  I finally made it back in the house with Spencer and called Animal Control.  They came out and my neighbor got into a lot of trouble.  The dogs were quarantined for 10 days and their owners had to put up a chain link fence for them which was completely enclosed so the dogs could not jump or dig out!  They also had to pay my medical and vet bills!  This man needs to be held responsible.  Will keep you in my prayers.

What a terrible thing.  I've not been on line for a while, so I am late in expressing my outrage.  I hope by now you are both ok and no infections.  I no longer walk my dogs together, much as I would like to, because of the folks in my town who let their big dogs run loose because they are "friendly".  Once had one cross the street to jump on me and try to get Bubba, who I held up high while kicking it.  The owner stood on the other side of the street and waited for traffic to stop so she could cross.
