Visiting United Kingdom Vote for this post

I know I haven't been around very much and it's amazing how quickly time slips though your fingers - even if you are retired.  I just wanted to share my latest news.  My daughter and her husband (from Pennsylvania) are going to England/Wales/Scotland this May and I'm going along with them.  I am over the moon with excitement as this has been on my bucket list for years.  Will visit Bath, Cotswolds, Wales (up to Snowdonia) into the Lake District onto Scotland and back down to York and lastly London.  All in a car.  Thank goodness we like to ride.  Now we have reserved all our nights accommodations, the car rental and I've reached out to my friends on FB who live in England and have Cairns and will be seeing them as we drive through.  Little Layla will be staying home with her Dad but I don't think she will mind - as she views him as her buddy.  So it's onward and forward with a huge grin on my face.

Ooh I am so jealous! I LOVE Bath and the Cotswolds! Bath has so much to see and do it takes more than a day or two to see everything. DO try the Sally Lunn buns and see if you can find out how they make them for me. The recipe is a secret I have yet to figure out. View the Assembly Rooms-simply gorgeous, the museum of fashion, the Roman Baths museum, the Royal Crescent and circus.

In the Cotswolds, visit Lacock if you love period dramas like Pride and Prejudice. I'm not sure of the name of the village I liked the best but I think it's Bourton-on-the-water.

The one place in England I really really want to go to but haven't yet is Oxford-more precisely the Bodleian Library at Oxford University!

Have lots of fun on your trip with your family. I'm sure Layla will have fun being alone with dad. After all, dads are the fun ones who share their food and play games while moms are the ones who make those pesky rules our beloved Cairns like to break.

Pretty much everything you mentioned on Bath and the Cotswolds is on my list including such quaint villages with Bourton-on-the-water etc.  Lacock was also on the list.  There is a lot to see and if we lay out the tour, we should be able to see most things important to us.  I have waited for this my whole life.  My mum as born in Eastbourne and always longed to go back and I think I inherited those feelings.  Perhaps I was born in a previous life in that country.  I don't think Oxford will be seen as we already have so much on the list.  But...thank you for your comments.

One of the reasons I'm posting this here is in the hopes Annie will see it and perhaps suggest that if she is on my route to meet somewhere so we can have a cup of tea and touch base.  I can imagine just how much you would like to meet her and get to see Andrew in the flesh (as they say!)  If it's not possible for whatever reasons, we can at least try.  Let's see what unfolds.  I'm leaving mid May which is a beautiful time to see the countryside.  Needless to say it can't come fast enough.

Thank you for responding Annie....all overnight cottages have been confirmed and some of them are so cute.  One in Hornton is an annexe in the oldest home in the village - 17th century thatched cottage.  That is probably the closest we will be to you as we will be leaving that morning to head up to Burton-on-Trent to meet up with two girlfriends who both own many cairns and then onto Snowdonia.  The overnight stay in Hornton is May 11th.  Prior to that we will be staying in Limpley Stoke for two nights to view the sights in that area (Lacock, Bath and the Cotswolds).  Not sure if we will have time to head up to the Hereford area in fact.  But one never knows how much time will be spent and where.  I need to look at a map and see where you are and see if something might be possible.  I don't want to impose as I will be travelling with my daughter and her husband but they are wonderful people (daughter is a CPA  & hubby is a professor at a prestigious university.)  Would be nice to say hi and share a cup of tea and then be off.  We can wait till time is closer and touch base and by then we should have our itinerary laid out.
