Need your opinion

and I know what yours will be Lynda...hehehehe.
Anyway, Babe is 13 and 1/2 years old. Would you give her booster shots? I'm leaning towards not. I just worry about her health.
What do you think?

NO way Hosae, what for? if shes not immune to most stuff by now she never will be, Maisie Is eight and we have stopped giving them, unless you need a certificate for boarding out, and that will never happen to Maisie, Heard some bad news in the past 'bout booster shots with elderly dogs, my advice is DONT

Re: Need your opinion Reply to this Message

I am a real believer in giving them, but I didn't our elderly Schnauzer, and probably won't the Girlies when they get older. So my opinion is no, except Rabies which the law requires. If your state is like ours you can get a hefty fine for not doing it. But it also lasts three years. If you ask your vet I think you will be surprised that he will tell you the same, well ours would anyway.

Re: Need your opinion Reply to this Message

Maggie is 13 this year and I chose not to have her get any more shots. Went into the web and read about a study done in a Colarado vet school saying after 8 or 9 they do not need any more, except, of course, the Rabies. My answer to you is no. I still had Maggie get a 'yearly' exam and blood tests and will continue this but not the immunizations.

Re: Need your opinion Reply to this Message

Carol - I wouldn't give her anything more than the rabies vac. at her age. I'm sure you will still have her tested for heartworm and put her on preventative for that...won't you??? Please say yes.

Booker goes in on Monday for his annual check-up, etc - I'm going to ask our vet about this, too - he will be 11 at the end of the month, so I'm thinking we might pass...however, he's never had reactions to them in the past, so it's a toss-up for me.

Re: Need your opinion Reply to this Message

I questioned my vet and he gave her booster anyway. She had her Pro-heart for heartworm preventive. He listened to her heart...and that sounded good. But she has been breathing kind of heavy so he listened some more and said that her broncoil(sp) tubes sounded funny. So he asked if she has been coughing and I said not really...so naturally Babe had to start coughing then. It's a gagging type cough. So she is now on medicine for 10 days. So she has had her booster for another year...oh well...maybe next year she won't have them. Thank you for all your opinions.

Re: Need your opinion Reply to this Message

Carol, our vet would not usually give annual shots to an older animal unless the owner requested it. But I don't know anything about what immunisations dogs have in the US, so your situation may be different. For instance, there is no rabies in Australia.
