Grooming a Cairn
I watched a show on Cairns on Animal Planet a few months back and they said you have to strip the coat when they are little. What age do you do it?

Re: Grooming a Cairn
Hi kellie, I'm a westie person, but the dogs are almost the same breed, so I would think you start at 16 weeks like a westie. The first stripping and subsequent shaping takes 12 weeks, so they are ready to show at 6 months, if that is your plan. Otherwise, you can start when you want, it just takes the puppy coat to the adult coat and makes it hard and straight. Due to bad advice, my first westie didn't get stripped till 18 months - but his coat came nice after that.

Re: Grooming a Cairn
I have my girls clipped. It's a matter of taste and whether you want to show them too. I had Rio first done around 6 months and Sparky 9 !!! XXX.
