Evening of Primrose Oil

I found it at WalMart!

I have 1000 mg gel tablets. I have cut the tablet open and put the oil on her food.

My question is, do you use it all, 1000 mg? and, do you give your pups the tablet? I would think it would pass whole. She doesn't like the taste of the oil, but today I put some left over egg drop soup over her food, and she ate it all up.

I never thought of egg drop soup, but it has to be good for her, and she likes it so much. I might just start buying a quart of the stuff, and using it every meal.

You can give the tablet whole, just put it in a favorite piece of meat, peanut butter, cream cream, or if you feed her canned food, you can just stuff it in there. Maggie doesn't seem to mind the taste so I have put it straight on her food and given her the whole tablet when she is having something I can stuff it in to. Good luck with this. After a bit, you might want to drop down to the 500 mg tablets for maintenance but for right now, the 1000 mg is probably good.

It helps with the itchies. It cools their skin.

PS - check the sodium content and MSG content in the soup - that might not be all that good for her.

They will be fine, but you can also get 500 mg caps at Wal-Mart. I would watch the egg drop soup though, it's very high in sodium. why not just get some low salt chicken broth instead?
I used to wrap the Girlies oil caps in a thin sliver of cream cheese,( they disolve fast because they are just gelatin.) Now they just take them from my hand. They didn't like it on their food either.

Pleased you found it, Connie. When you've used all the 1000mg up, I'd get the 500mg as that will be sufficient-and cheaper !!

Thanks for the advise about the 500 mg. I will get that from now on.

And I never thought of the sodium in the soup. They don't use MSG, but I never considered the salt. Darn, thought I had a solution. I will try the chicken broth from a can. That's a good idea.

Thanks all from Lucy

I am using a liquid Evening Primrose Supplement, available in the UK from Pets at Home (they bought out PetSmart over here). It comes in a bottle with it's own dispensing measure, although a full measure gives 2500mg. I use just under half a measure per day on Kyle's food and he doesn't even notice it. I also use an EPO shampoo, which improves his skin and leaves him smelling nice too. For these and other EPO products check out the following website www.groomersshampoo.com

Our girls considered this pill a treat and would beg for it. No peanut butter of cheese or anything. Just gobbled it up. Funny.
