Gas problems in an older dog

Has anyone had a problem with their Westie being gasy? Crystal is a 13 year old Westie who is having this problem and sometimes the smell is unbearable. I am wondering what to feed her so she won't be so gasy? I have her on Senior Science Diet small bites and anything else I have tried gives her the runs. She does have an enlarged heart with fluid surrounding it and the vet has tried to clear the fluid. What they gave her has eased it but nothing has made it totally disappear. We would be grateful for any help you can give us. Thank you in advance.

Certain foods tend to do this with my two but I just live with it. I'm not really sure if there's something you can buy to help like you can get biscuits for bad breath,etc...

If you live in the US, you can buy a human product in the grocery stores, called, no kidding "Beano". It works really well. I give 1/4 to 1/2 tab to my older cairn, like yesterday when he opened the fridge and ate an entire takeout carton of Chinese noodles and pork!

Your Cairn sounds like quite the enterprising fellow. Dexter has been known to get into similar mischief. The other day he climbed up on a table to get a bag of beer nuts. As for the gas problem, the only time we worried about that with Dexter was as a young pup, and eating yogurt would do it. I just switched to cottage cheese, and the problem went away. I was thinking about using some Beano, until I discovered the source of the problem.

Beano! are you kidding? I can give that to a dog? That is great news. Lucy's farts are just the worst thing I have smelled. Oh man, sometimes in the car, aaaaahhhhhh. I suppose it would be ok to give to a younger dog too, huh? Maybe I will try 1/4 tab for her too.

Thanks to all for the advice. As for getting into things Crystal always seems to find my peppermint lifesavers when I forget to put them out of reach. She has even gotten a hold of them from the outside pouch of my purse. (So now that is always out of reach. The only thing left of the roll is the silver foil wrap and where the trail leads she is at the end sitting very proud of herself. Even at thirteen there's still some spunk left in her.
