Need measurements for a Westie

Excuse my instrusion but I'm looking for chest measurements for a Westie. My SIL is the proud owner (oh, and is she proud!) of two male Westies and I want to make two coats for them for Christmas. Can't ask SIL because she'll catch on.

If anyone out there can help here's what I need:
1. Measurement of the chest (as if you were measuring for a bra)
2. Measurement from the neck (where the collar sits) to the base of the tail
3. The weight. I may need this to make a few adjustments since she tells me they may very well tip the scale at 25lbs. when full grown. Supposedly this is big? I don't know I'm surrounded by 50lb Dalmatians so I haven't a clue.

This doesn't have to be exact as the coats stretch and adjust but I need a ballpark figure.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Dottie,

I took these measurements on MacDuff. He's my 6 year old Westie boy and he weighs 22 pounds.

20.5 inches around the chest

14 inches from collar to base of tail

Hope this helps!

Hi!

Mac is 20 inches around the chest, 13 from tail base to withers, and 12.25 around the neck. He's a 4 year old male, and weighs 16.5 lbs, but has really thick hair.

Hope this helps!! In store-bought clothes, he usu. wears a "12".

PS, he got all stiff and noodley when I tried to measure! I think he's really more like 12 long, if his back wasn;t all humped up!

I have four girls and they vary in size a lot. Is there some way you could get your brother to measure them? Then your SIL will be surprised and so will the dogs. You are making a very thoughtful gift, they will love it.

Re: Need measurements for a Westie-Thank you! Reply to this Message

Thanks a bunch. You guys are great. This was a real help. I'm going to aim for 20inches. I know now this won't be too large once they're full grown and since I've made these before for my Dals I know there's always extra room in the chest area even without the stretch.

I know she's going to love these. She and her husband waited sooooo long for a pup. She wanted everything "just right" and the two are just enjoying "the boys" so much.

Thanks again.
