To Neuter or Not
Hello, I was wondering what feedback is available regarding neutering Mister Beasley. He is very interested in his stuffed dog but other than that, I don't know if neutering is necessary. I do not intend to stud him out. Which is better for him healthwise?

Re: To Neuter or Not
Hi Beverley-good to see a new member posting. I know with bitches there are health benefits but I'm unsure regarding males....I would get him done, though, as I know it helps with marking issues apparently !! XXX.

Re: To Neuter or Not
Male dogs which are not neutered are prone to prostate inflammation and cancer as they get older. Not to say this is common, but it is virtually unknown in neutered males. I have a dog who is not neutered - I show him, have not bred him, but have thought about it. I am going to freeze semen when he is 6, and neuter him then. My other 5 male dogs are neutered.

Re: To Neuter or Not
This is what my vet told me as well. I would rather be safe than sorry, Lenny is getting fixed in Jan. he will be six months old then.

Re: To Neuter or Not
We had Max neutered as soon as we could, simply because we had heard that it was best in order to prevent marking, humping, and some behavioral issues. I'd ask your vet for his/her feedback to help you in your decision as well!

Re: To Neuter or Not
Ther is definately a lot of health benefits to neutering. The earlier the better although most vets want the doggie to be at least 6 months old. I am taking Sir William next month ( but don"t tell him)!!!! Allen

Re: To Neuter or Not
Just a little note not to scare you but when we got our terrier mix we didn't have him neutered, he was a wonderful dog, my "soul dog" and we had no problems with him marking or anything, got along OK with dogs, LOVED our cat, I was terrified of him having surgery since I lost my precious Westie right after surgery, thing is when he got to be 11 he developed cancer and the lump started on his testicles so that has always made me feel so guilty like if I had him neutered maybe he wouldn't have gotten the cancer and we wouldn't have lost him so young. Just thought I'd share. The dog we got next, Border Collie mix was fixed at 6 months, had to sign papers we'd do it when we got him from the shelter and had to send proof of it in or they said they'd come and take him from us, don't know if they would have or not but he's neutered and also a good boy except for the fact he doesn't like other dogs. Re: To Neuter or Not
I had Charlie neutered when he was six months old as I did not want to breed from him, he is purely our wee boy, I think this is the responsible thing to do, there are far to many unwanted litters as it is!Charlie had absolutely no ill effects, infact the vet called me to go get him as he was making such a fuss after his op! he recovered very quickly, small lead walks for two weeks and he was back bouncing about everywhere! good luck with your decision.
