Any harm in clipping hair arround the eyes of my cairn, or is that a no no?

I think that's OK. Col Potter Cairn Rescue sells thinning shears and grooming scissors on their ebay site. I think it's just the body you hand strip. Our pups have to be able to see!

It's fine you can but be careful while doing this. Your cairn might not be comfortable with it. 

You should first learn about how to use it carefully. Only then you should give a try. I would recommend you to first visit sites like Mynahcare to know your pet better

You do not have to hand strip. This is usually done for the show ring. I see by the post above you are looking to spay her so you can't show in conformation. It is still your preference to clip or strip. Hope this is helpful.
