Remember the post on RESCUE ADOPT?

Hi all

There was a post a few days ago to rescue a Westie mix from that "high kill" shelter and I told you that I was going to tell my friend? Well he had an interview with them and found a dog he loved (not sure if it was that one) but then since he works long hours they won't give him a dog.

I am SO angry right now because I can't understand why they will just put a dog to sleep instead of giving it a good home. I mean isn't it very possible that an old doggie is there on death row that would be happy to sleep all day, nice and toasty, good food and a nice backyard instead?

I feel so frustrated! What can my friend and I do?

Have someone else adopt the dog and give it to your friend. Just a thought...............

I guess this means one thing and we all need to remember it. Tell the idiots you are only working 4 hours a day.....

The largest problem is they won't just put that little pup to sleep....... they'll choose to torture her to death rather than send her to a good home. I agree with Lisa - have someone else adopt then your friend can take her.

I truly sympathise with him. I never wanted puppies originally but the rescues here are the same. Will not entertain you if you work....such a waste.

I agree that is just stupidity. How are you suppposed to pay for vet bills, food and needs a dog has if you DON'T work. This shelter has their priorities all mixed up!

Westies are still there - Reply to this Message

yes - have someone else adopt the dog at this point... I called the shelter - the little Westies are still there and the next kill date is THIS Wednesday... and we haven't heard if anyone has pulled the dogs as of a few minutes ago.

So are you saying to just lie about everything? Like if I call and can get the dog, do I just say that I don't work at all?

Where are they located exactly? I hope this works out!

Looks like you'll have to. You'll probably need a secure garden too, Diane....

It seems to me anything goes if they are just going to put him down..I can't believe they think like that. People with dogs work all the time, the dogs adapt. Make sure you tell them, no kids and a fenced yard!!

UNbelievable!! I cannot see the sense of some these people, Provided the dog has a loving caring owner, and access to an area where he is safe, and do his business, what difference does it make, I suggest that LYing is the only way with these people until a policy change has been affected, What happens if an owner who doesnt work long hours, then changes to one that does.? Its Crazy
I hope that Westie mix has been found a home and has not been put down .

If I could ever think of a good reason to lie---- even a little white lie----- this would be it! And I wouldn't mind telling a big lie!! Absolutely get someone else to adopt him, then take him home to your friend--- who's just "puppy-sitting," in case you ever get asked!

My two cents worth! PAM

Hey, I am a Sales Administrator and believe me, I have no qualms about lying one bit. No offence to anyone who works in sales, but I operate on the premise that it's better to ask for forgiveness that permission. And, what they don't know, they don't need to know. YOu go for it. Our rescue group would not be placing many dogs if we required that people not work. That's crazy!! Everyone works these days.

It has also been my experience that my local shelter (kill shelter) in Jacksonville, Florida, seems to prefer to "euthanise" than place dogs. They make it extremely difficult at times. I would suggest doing what needs to be done to get the dogs out. Does anyone have an update on this situation? It's Tuesday, and I'm worried for them.

Re: Remember the post on RESCUE ADOPT? Reply to this Message

Those people started to convince him (my friend) that working full time doesn't leave enough time for a doggie. I am trying to explain that people do it all the time... I do! Also, there are plenty of kids who would love to make like $10 a week to play with and walk a dog. I am trying... I really want to help so bad I can scream! Oh why couldn't I have a house of my own that was so big and so much land that I could rescue them all!

I'm sorry everyone, I get so emotional when it comes to dogs. I love them all so much, they all deserve a loving home, or at least one person that they know loves them and it breaks my heart to hear horrible stories. I get a lump in my throat when I think of those puppy mills and all the rescue dogs that are so needing of love...

I cant go on at this hour, I have to be able to sleep tonight.

Me too...

and my friend figured out a way to get the doggie he liked so much. He is going to pay the lady across the street from him to keep Tiffany in her yard for a few hours while he is at work.

Here is a picture of her. I am going to help them "get together" in any way I can.
