Brenda's Sunday update on Wendy
Wendy is getting along with my dogs. I think that as a stray she had to live by her wits and was looking for food anywhere, any way she could. She doesn't have a lot of interaction with the others right now, just sort of follows and watches. I know that she is just beginning to feel better, so I think that will come along as she regains some weight, knows that meals are regular and just feels better in general.
I haven't had to give her any benedryl for the last two days because she has pretty much stopped scratching all the time. There was a time that she would scratch until she drew blood.
She still gets cold when the temp drops at night and in the mornings, so I've kept a sweater or t-shirt on her nearly all the time. I also cover her with a blanket at night. I think that may have been why she got the "best" sleeping spots at Luann's -- she gets cold. I haven't had that problems as long as I keep her warm.
She eats like each meal will be her last, but isn't really food aggressive, just wants to eat all she can when she can. She understands "no" when she approaches the other bowls so will let everybody else finish then goes to see if there are any leftovers.
She is very thin. She is on an antibiotic to get strong enough for her spay. I'm also feeding a yeast-free diet (no grains, no below ground veggies and no fruit)
She is totally housebroken. She has had one indoor accident with me.
I would imagine that her hair will begin to grow in within the next 3 or 4 months. Right now her skin is very rough and black like "elephant skin." That will have to soften before the hair begins to grow. It will probably be 9 months to a year for her to re-grow a full coat.
She is a sweet little thing. She just wants to be fed, kept warm, and cuddled.

Karen Parrot one of the BOD of Col Potters wrote a skin care regime for dogs with terrible allergies etc.. it has helped many dogs including Snickers -the Michigan foster.
You might want to try it.. might speed up that time table

I am so glad to hear she is improving. Just keep doing what you are doing, it seems to be working! She is such a precious little girl, and is lucky to have a second chance.

Janie Thanks for the update on this and a 'Huge' Thank you' to Brenda too, for being the one who is caring for this one hands on.
I saw the earlier pics and was shocked and dismayed at how anyone could have let her get so bad. Thank God for people like you, and best wishes to all those involved in rescue and care respite. You are indeed worthy of a special place in Heaven and also in all of us animal lovers hearts,
It seems that already there has been a major improvement, long may it continue.

Thanks for the update on Wendy. She does look much better than before. I love the picture looking up into the sky. She surely hasn't had many opportunities to stop and smell the roses!! Hopefully, she will have the rest of her life to do just that from now on.
