Ainsley - Nov 1

Heres a recent update on Ainsley.

From her foster mom...
I'm sorry to have been so neglectful about posting on my rescues, but figured it was time to fill everyone in. Ainsley's eye still appears to be full of blood in spite of all the meds she is taking, I can see no improvement at all in the appearance of it. We are to return her to the eye specialist after all medicine is dispensed and she has only one set of pills left which should run out this week, so we'll be taking her back to see if her eye is worth saving, probably this week. She takes her meds very nicely and allows me to put drops in her eye with no struggle. This little girl is just the sweetest thing and still so tiny even though she is eating well and has gained a few pounds back. She is having MUCH less trouble getting around on her rear legs, even though she still looks a little unstable and "wobbly" at times, she flies out our doggie door along with all the rest...no trouble. I truly believe she was very sore when we first got her(maybe from the beating), thus making her look horribly lame, but she definitely has a serious problem with this right rear leg, just not as noticeable now since it probably isn't sore.
Her personality is starting to emerge and she is a spit fire with the other dogs. She still reacts quickly to being approached and rolls over as if waiting to be hit, but when we pick her up now, she wags her tail and starts kissing us, knowing we mean no harm to her. She acts like a cat, sitting on the back of our sofas instead of the seat and loves to jump (she's managed to jump our ex-pen twice), though we are trying hard to discourage this due to her legs. She tends to "peck" the other dogs when she wants to play, which upsets some of my older ones, but Carney loves playing with her and they tussle together a lot, making us smile at the fun they both are having. We can see where she could be very annoying to the wrong dog, their thinking she is being mean instead of playful, so a dog with a good disposition would be necessary to live with her. She's a bundle of love and adores being petted. She'll come to you for affection now and "nose" you until you pet her and honestly ....you can't ignore that sweet and pitiful look on her face. She's full of energy and feeling good now, so if we can address her medical problems, she'll be one happy little girl for someone to adopt. I think she will need to be in a home with only one other dog (maybe two), because she loves to play so much, but she gets very excited with the numbers here and pecks at everyone when excitement is in the air, causing a few here to snap at her and scare her to death. We're keeping a close watch on her (when we can.....she soars around here like a bullet sometimes) and seeing to it she is safe since she is so small. Basically, she's doing fine here, loving the attention she is getting and adapting very well to the changes in her life, trying to get along with our pack. She is very quiet usually, but makes the most pitiful whining sound you have ever heard, when she wants something (like affection). We love her and are enjoying her being with us, anxious to get her back to the eye doctor to see if this eye will improve or must be taken. She's a great girl and I'll try to post more regularly about her. Her tiny butt is completely healed (having lost a lot of hair), but not red and sore now, and her stools are good and solid. She's eating everything we give her and likes to sit in your lap. I just can't say enough about how wonderful this girl is and have no idea how anyone could have abused her so.

So pleased she's being so lovingly cared for and that she seems to be recovering from someone's nastiness and cruelty.

It's good to hear she's doing so well. I laugh a little when you write about the rowdiness escalations that seem to happen when 1 terrier, or 2 are extremely boisterous!

I saw that applications are closed on her, does that mean you are waiting to take them till her problems are cleared up, or does that mean she is already "engaged"?

I guess Corinne must be away for a bit so I'll answer - usually when a dog is listed with APPS CLOSED that means we have anywhere from 5-6 GOOD applications pending.

It's to help people who are looking at a specific dog not to get their hopes up - unless of course they already have their application in and they might one of the lucky ones!!

This happens quite a bit - people asking for a specific dog who has already been adopted but the web-site just hasn't been updated. SO to help with this, a new Placement Team has been created at Col. Potter that will work with approved homes to find a dog that will fit perfectly with them if the dog they had hoped for has been adopted!! We are really excited about this - it is something that has been needed for ages.

This actually happened with my foster dog, Cody, in Vermont. I am doing a home visit tomorrow on a family in Vermont who were sure they would be getting Cody but he is going to be adopted to a wonderful home in New Jersey. But they have been great - they just want another Cairn family member and tomorrow when I meet them, I'll tell them all about the new placement team and how this help them find the dog of their dreams.

Sorry didn't mean to get so long winded...

Thanks for asking,
Susan and Myra

That sounds a great idea, Susan. You should home many more this way.

I must have missed the earlier post... Reply to this Message

was the poor little girl beaten? I guess nothing should shock me any more. Glad to hear apart from her eye that she's recovering well.

go down about 5 pages on this board.. I had a note on 10/13

Ainsley was savagely beaten. Ribs and legs hurt, and her eyes will probably have to be removed.

Her foster mom is one of our best.

By reading your posts do you mean BOTH OF HER EYES?
Have you had another eye specialist look at her?
I am sorry but I would not take the word of just one.

I forgot to add, if someone calls DR. Lynch at the number I sent and he thinks he can help my offer of who ever brings her can stay at my house.

you know, that is the sad part of rescue.. seeing the really hurt ones. I could never imagine treating an animal like some of these are treated.. and I think most folk are like me.
At least THIS ONE... is now in safety and will lead a happy life.. and we go one at a time.. .. as one of our mottos say
saving one dog may not change the world, but it will change the world for that one dog.
Ainsley will be cared for and adopted by a forever family. She wont have anything like this happen to HER again.

It is so good to hear that Ainsley is doing so well. We have paws, fingers, toes crossed that they can save her eyes. I think about her all the time and was so excited to see the update. Isn't it amazing how they can bounce back from such a terrible life before. We send lots of kisses and hugs to her. She sounds wonderful.

I am so pleased to hear Ainsleys update and she sounds adorable, can just immagine the little character coming out when she trusts you,Its hard to see how they ever trust humans again after being beaten but thank goodness they do and then know kindness and love ,Thank you for all you are doing and we pray her eye is soon to be looked at again.
Love and kisses Annie xxxxxxxxxx
