Christy - a dog in trouble

Hi All:

I just got a call from a gentleman who had adopted a WRM dog a few years ago. The dog - Christy - has white shaker dog syndrome and an extreme hate of small children. Yesterday, she bit a 10 year old neighbor girl. The girl had to have 10 stitches. We are now trying to decide what to do about Christy. The man can no longer keep her. Because Christy has not been vaccinated due to the white shaker dog syndrome, she is presently in quarantine for 10 days.

She is also extremely aggressive towards individuals who approach a car she is riding in. She is also known to nip at the heels of folks who visit the house, although this is obviously not the problem that her child-aggression is.

On the other hand, in a safe element, Christy is the model of Westie love and affection.

My knee jerk reaction is that Christy is not going to be placeable. But, I'm going an extra round here to see if anyone would be interested in adopting Christy before we make a final decision. The owners are heartbroken that this incident has occurred. They are looking for any way possible to save Christy's life.

I hope you can find somewhere here that will want her, Luann. The Minkies are the same where the car's concerned.

Other than the White Shaker Syndrome, Christy sounds like our Kali. She is probably in pain in some way and this is why she is so bad. I don't have any good advise as if I hadn't loved Kali so very much, I don't know how much of all that I could have handled. It was not a good way to live the last year or so. She could be sweet most of the time as well. You never knew...Prayers for Christy coming from S. Alabama.

UPDATE Christy - a dog in trouble Reply to this Message

We have learned that Christy is on a large does of steriods - we are investigating this further as the proper treatment of this illness is not being treated correctly - and we all know what a steriod can do to a dog if given in mega doses....

Will keep you all up to date.

It would be grand if that was the cause of her aggression.
