Scottie mix/CAN ANYONE HELP

Hello All,

For those of you that don't know us, we are a Scottie / Westie Rescue Group in Dallas - Ft. Worth.

We are surprised to hear that a Scottie Mix will be euthanized in a State where there is an STCA Rescue Group that had previously agreed to Rescue the dog.
It is our understanding that Mr. Paul Turner had agreed to Rescue the dog from Osceloa County Animal Control, but never showed up.

STC of Tampa Bay
Paul Turner -- E-Mail: pturner40@cfl.rr.com
412 Bunker St.
Melbourne, FL 32901
Tel: (813) 651-5615 or (813) 918-5628

We have contacted many people about this dog, yet no one in the Florida Area has been able to help. We've heard excuses about the hurricanes, etc., but the fact remains, that Mr. Paul Turner (STCA Approved Rescue) had set up a day & time to Rescue this dog, yet never did. The shelter tells us that he won't return their phone calls now. Even Ann Beal with Yorkie Rescue is attempting to save this precious life.

We have friends that have posted messages on various forums, but we hear more "excuses" than anything else.
THIS DOG NEEDS HELP ***NOW***.
Rescue isn't about excuses, it's about ACTION.

Isn't there someone in Florida that can help? Will everyone take the time to e-mail and/or call Paul Turner and ask him to please follow through on his promise to save this life???

We realize it's not always an easy call to take in a mix, but this dog has so many people pulling for him, that's it has become a quest for many of us across the country that are too far away to help.

Would it help if each of us chipped in a few dollars to help Paul foster the dog until he's placed? Is that all that it will take? If so, count us in!

PLEASE contact Paul Turner in Florida and ask him to save this dog!

Or if you prefer to go directly to the shelter, this is their contact information:

Osceola County Animal Control
407-343-7101
Kathy Hebor

PLEASE SAVE THIS LIFE!!!

If we allow this dog to be euthanized, it will send a message to this Shelter, and to others, that the word of a Rescuer is not good. They will then, never trust another Rescuer when they say they will pick up a dog. In the end, they'll stop contacting Rescuers and/or stop working with us. It's a bad situation that none of us would want to see happen.

***PLEASE CROSS POST THIS MESSAGE UNTIL THIS DOG IS SAVED***

Scottie Kingdom Rescue, Inc.

I do hope the dog can be saved....hopefully there's a very good reason that Paul Turner hasn't collected him...seems odd, though.

Paul Turner had agreed to pick up the dog PRIOR to the latest weather. He never did. He also doesn't return phone calls to the shelter. And yes, it was confirmed that his phone is working and he is in good health.

Perhaps his home is damaged and he needs to be fixing stuff ? There could be a few reasons after the horrific weather. A shame he never advised anyone, though.

Is there any photo of this animal, in case another rescue can take him in (if still alive). I looked at their website. They don't have a scottie mix listed but dogs listed there aren't even given names, so guess it is "high volume" in the bad sense.

I couldn't find any pets listed there at all...just get a blank page on their adoptables link.

I went to petfinders, clicked on shelters, looked for one in Osceola and looked at their available dogs. There are not many, about six, so seems its a little place. I don't know as never been there. Darlene, FL

Where is the dog? I cannot find it in the Petfinders database--no listing for that county at all. Can you list a link to it?

Thanks,

Pam
Osceola is spelled wrong in the post. IT's not far from me and I've offered to go get the dog for them. I looked on pet finder and they are only showing 5 dogs and none are scottie mix. I cant seem to get into their website for some reason.

Jim and Taylor's Mom,

Sorry, but need more information to be able to help. I searched all of Florida for something spelled anything like Osceola.

The only Scottie I can locate is in Ocala with a rescue group.

Can you provide a link to the shelter this dog is in so we can see what can be done?

Thanks,
Pam and pups

I've emailed you privately. I Osceola animal control only lists 5 dogs on pet finder and none are scotty mixes. I cannot seem to get onto their web site. As I said in my email I am willing to go get the dog for you...I've talked to my brother and he can go tomorrow if need be.

Re: Scottie mix/CAN ANYONE HELP Reply to this Message

Jim,
Just post the url of the website in the body of your next message. Then we can all go there to see it.

I cannot find anything like what you are talking about. I find a Wheaton Scottie in Ocala, Florida but that is as close as I can come and here is the url. I just did a right click on the address, selected copy and then pasted it into the body of this note.

http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=2944402&adTarget=468petsgeneral&SessionID=415cb03b0e688a03-app5&display=&preview=&row=0&tmpl=&stat=

Then when one wants to go see the location, they just highlight the entire url, right click, select copy and then paste that url into the address box on the screen.

So, can you give me the location?

Re: Scottie mix/CAN ANYONE HELP Reply to this Message

Well here I go again -
"Jim" - I direct this comment specifically to YOU - first off let me tell you that I am a WRM volunteer and if you at all doubt my credability ask half of this board - I also own a newspaper and I cannot tell you how shocked I am that you posted this mans name and personal information on this board - who the hell do you think you are? This board is full of good people that work the tails off for rescue - so we know what it is about - but this man is in FLORIDA - who knows what might have happened to him - or maybe to a family member of his?? You post against him like he is a criminal - I understand your frustration with this situation - truly I do - but in this situation posting that you were totally out of line - and WHY CAN'T ANYONE POST THEIR IDENTITY ANYMORE??? If you don't have the guts to take the heat by posting your name - then shut the hell up and get off this board.

As I drive around the Melbourne area there are lots of people still without electricity and we certainly did get hit hard by the Hurricane. Lots of damage to homes this time.

Response To Jim From Someone Who Knows! Reply to this Message

Mr. Buehler,

I am writing in response to your message below, which was forwarded to me by others in Rescue. I am one of the STCGNY Rescue Coordinators for DE, NJ, NY and eastern PA.

The Scottie mix that you wrote about will not be euthanized, but instead will be picked up by Mr. Turner tomorrow when the shelter opens. During the past three weeks, Mr. Turner's home town of Melbourne was devastated by two major hurricanes. You may have seen this if you watched any of the Weather Channel's extensive coverage from Melbourne. The rest of the state of Florida also suffered considerable damage and is working to restore services and normalcy to it's residents.

I spoke with Mr. Turner a few moments ago (8:30 p.m. eastern time) and discussed with him the pending rescue of the Osceola Scottie mix. Mr. Turner has been without electrical and telephone service for several days and was unable, until today, to purchase gas for his car to make the 90 minute drive to St. Cloud. Much of Melbourne remains without power and residents are waiting in long lines to purchase gas and basic necessities. We didn't discuss whether he had checked his e-mail, but I'm sure he has other, far more pressing concerns at the moment. It's a shame that no one inquired regarding his welfare when he failed to respond! As a point of fact, Mr. Turner was in contact with Kathy at the shelter late today and confirmed arrangements to retrieve the dog tomorrow. If you spoke with her or someone else at the shelter, I'm surprised they didn't share that information with you. I don't disagree with your assertion that Rescue is about action, but it goes much further than action. Rescue is about caring and doing what you can with the resources available to you. I'd say that Mr. Turner did all that he could with what he had to work with...unless of course you think he should have walked between Melbourne and St. Cloud.

Your offer of financial assistance is generous but totally unneeded. It was never about the cost of fostering or the fact that this is a mix. Mr. Turner has the funds and applicants who will take a mix.

While I applaud your zeal to get the word out to help this dog, I now ask that you use the same amount of effort to pass along this information to everyone to whom you sent the original post. While failing to follow through leaves a bad taste for Rescue with a shelter, numerous calls from people who are not in the area and able to take this dog will not be any more appreciated. I would also ask that you prevail upon your e-mail recipients to stop any calls or e-mails to Mr. Turner. Even if his phone is working, I doubt that he'll want to be flooded by calls from people critical of his performance based upon your original information. In fact, you might even send Mr. Turner a note of apology in a week or so, when his life has returned to normal and he has time to read e-mail.

Pleased he's OK....I did think it must be something like this as I couldn't see him just not bothering.
Happy to hear he's collecting him. What a star.

Just a brief note of correction. Whomever posted my response to Mr. Buehler added the title "National Scottie Rescue Coordinator." As I clearly indicated at the beginning of my message to Mr. Buehler, I am a Rescue Coordinator for the STCGNY. I am a member of the STCA but hold no office, Rescue or otherwise.

Thank you all for your support of Rescue and for your concern about the dog in Osceola.
