Hooray for Zelda! Vote for this post

I am just tickled beyond belief. I just got home a little while ago from bringing one of my fosters to her new home. When I took Zelda into rescue, I really had my doubts as to whether I'd ever be able to find a home for her. Despite the fact that she was only 8 months old, I figured the fact that she has seizures, that her life may be cut significantly short because of that, and the fact that she may never be completely housebroken because she was kept in a cage at a pet store for 5 months, were going to make it pretty difficult to find someone willing to take her on.

But, I was recently contacted by someone who was interested in another dog (Tweak, aka Pookie/Pooh). Tweak was not suitable, because these people have a female dog, and Tweak does NOT like other females, but they had recently lost a blind JRT mix, so they wanted to adopt another special needs dog. So I told them about Zelda, and they were completely taken by her, despite the challenges.

She has gone to live on a farm in rural Maine with Carmela, a pit bull who was afraid of the blind JRT mix, some cats, beef cattle, chickens, and other assorted critters. I could not have been more impressed by their references, their home, or their commitment to Zelda. And to top it all off, one of them is a critical care nurse, so Zelda could not be in better hands in terms of her epilepsy.

But it is so quiet around here. I never thought I'd say this, but I might need a puppy! Sammy is now my youngest at 7, and there is just such an energy vacuum in the house, it is unbelievable. And I am going to miss her snuggling at night. All of her seizures were as she was falling asleep, so I let her sleep with me so I could monitor them (oh, OK, that's one rule I'm not religious about). She would nuzzle at my neck as she was falling asleep, I think because she was taken away from her mother so young.

But I am so happy for this bright little dog. She has such a zest for life. Saying goodbye is always bittersweet, but - hip, hip, hooray - Great Big Snoopy Dance for Zelda!
