As you all have seen, we have the possibility of taking in a lot of cairns, some in Texas, others in the mid-west and more in Ohio. If we don’t have the foster homes lined up before hand we can not go after these kids. We have to have the foster homes and funds in place. So are you ready to foster? If you have never fostered before, I can promise you it will be one of the most rewarding experiences you have ever had. Seeing this kids bloom and grow into the Cairn they should be. All of you have seen the story about my foster girl Guinevere; she was 17 month old when she came into rescue and was very damaged. She was fear aggressive; with patience and love she has overcome her fear and as of Sunday she won her battle with the big bad monster, the back yard. I no longer have to pick her up and take her outside to potty, she runs out the door all by her self and has learned to love being outsite.

So please help these babies by saying YES to fostering. Some of you have already responded, and we THANK YOU. If you can help please send a e-mail to me at monikarest @ yahoo.com (remove spaces) Kathy Garis at kgaris1003 @ yahoo.com (remove spaces) Aly Schwartz at akat30 @ aol.com (remove spaces) or Judy Willis at oldsoul320 @ aol.com (remove spaces)

Thank you so much

Hi, I am Guinevere's foster mom and wanted to tell you her story; Guine came in to rescue from a puppy mill, she was 17month old and fear aggressive. For the longest time I was afraid to do any updates on her, because she could have gone either way; become a pet cairn or a biter. For the first 4 week I could not touch her or get closer then a couple of feet. So I had her set up in a spare bedroom, in an x-pen and puppy pads. I was lucky that she was using the pads for her business. I would sit with her for hours and all she did was shake. Then I found a product called “Comfort Zone” and decided it can’t hurt. I am not sure if it was the Comfort Zone or that it was just time, but on Christmas eve, she took a treat out of my hands, but only through the wires of the x-pen. Then on New Years Eve I decided it was time; I smeared peanut butter all over my hand and laid down on the floor in front of the open x-pen. Guinevere was brave and came and licked my hand, but immediately retreated. That went on for 2 hours, until she started to linger and I was able to pet her. Since then she has demanded to join in the rest of the Cairns in the house, she has learned that human’s can be good. The biggest impact on her was my Ritz (resident Cairn) and Vogue (foster Cairn). Guinevere is following there lead and is becoming a Cairn Terrier.

Congratulations, Monika, on bringing her out of her shell. How sad it must have been to see her so scared....poor little girl.
Thankyou for telling us and well done to you.
