Col. Potter Welcomes The Olympic Medalists! Vote for this post

Please welcome Col. Potter's latest group of rescued Cairn Terriers - The Olympic Medalists - 12 puppymill dogs turned over from a professional breeding facility to begin their new lives. This write-up is from the volunteer who pulled them last Saturday.

-----
My husband and I pulled 12 kids from a mill today and transported them to be vetted. The miller let us come to her property, although we were not permitted back where all the hundreds of dogs were kept. We could see a little of where these poor souls were kept. Basically they are in cages stacked at least 3 to 4 tiers high under a roofed building with no walls exposed to all weather.

Once we arrived at the vet, we could get a better look at them all. 3 had chain collars on that were to the point of choking them. We cut these off immediately. They all are filthy and the males are terribly matted. A couple of the females have skin problems and I noticed a couple with eyes that looked infected.

These kids are all petite in build and range in age from 3 yrs to 10+ yrs. They are all fearful of people but calmed when I hugged them close. They have lived in misery all their life, and now have a chance and love and a forever home with Col. Potter. I took pictures they do not do these precious babies justice. They are all just adorable.

We have a chance to save more......BUT we need foster homes to do so. Please help if you can so we can save them all.

I have included the link below to their pictures. We have foster homes for these 12 but we are expecting at least another 18 mill dogs very soon in addition to the owner surrenders and shelter strays who are constantly coming in. I am getting my newest foster on Sunday - a 1-1/2 year old little boy (owner surrender) - I sure hope Myra is ready for some PLAYTIME!!

Thank you for taking time to read this and your support for these wonderful dogs starting on their new road to freedom.

OLYMPIC MEDALISTS UPDATE!

As promised yesterday to Bonnie and other inquiring minds, our newest CP momma-to-be is ... Mancuso. She is going to need all of your prayers as Mancuso is the OLDEST of the girls, having just turned 8 years old in January. This poor girl has probably had 14 or 15 litters of puppies already in her life and her body must be just worn out. The good thing is she will be receiving medical care, healthy food and will be in a warm and safe environment when she whelps this, her LAST litter of pups. It's too early in her pregnancy to tell exactly how far along she is or give an accurate guess as to how many puppies she is carrying, but there are at least two and probably more.

The rest of the kids are being pampered and loved by the vet staff that is caring for them. Everyone seems to just love these kids and has a special place in their heart for them knowing where they've come from and what their lives have bee n like up to now.

We're hoping to be able to start moving them to foster homes this weekend, but we're still working out the details of the transport. I'll be sending a message to all those that will be fostering these kids later tonight with the name of who they will fostering.

I would like to THANK all who have stepped forward to foster these kids. Those that don't get one of these furkids, don't despair as there are more waiting at the gate. Please keep these kids in your prayers and don't forget Kathie's CHALLENGE!! I for one certainly want to see some money leaving her wallet and these kids sure appreciate everything you are doing for them!!

Here are their birthdates/sex/color (below). They are all heading off to their new foster homes this weekend! We have at least 3 new foster homes for this group - everyone was great to volunteer. Thanks to everyone here for their support as well. All the good thoughts and prayers help a LOT!

Something else...do a few of them have no hair on their noses or especially pronounced blacker noses ?

I think the hair on their noses has been rubbed off from sticking their noses through a wire cage.

Robin is exactly right - this is typical of many puppymill dogs - the fur has just rubbed right off from being pushed through cage bars.

The good news is that it does grow back! And now these kids will at least have a chance to have it grow back in their OWN homes with loving families.

p.s. If you haven't had a chance, check out some of the Olympic Medalist's pictures & write-ups on the website! Cohen in VA (Virginia) already has 6-7 families interested in adopting her! GOOD NEWS indeed.

What sad little faces. I hate, hate, hate millers. I hope they rot in hell!!! My Clover is a CP puppy mill release although I don't think her mill was that bad. Thanks for all the hard work...
