Flour or corn starch are good to use if you accidentally hit the quick when cutting your dog's nails. (A lot cheaper and kinder than styptic powder!)

Keep it on hand in a small plastic container and just put your pup's whole paw in the container and hold it there if nail starts to bleed.

I have tried to hold styptic on the injured nail and it's almost impossible --- that's because it stings!!!

I've learned that the best way to tire out my cairn is to let her have fun with a racquetball or let her play tug-a-war with my 13mth old daughter, Megan...

I read in the "Dog World" magazine, that grapes can be very harmful to your dog. I would not recommend giving them to her.

this is a good way to remove tear stains from those westie eyes. Target has a tear stain remover designed for white dogs. Its very cheap, about 4 dollars. If they don't have it, i've also seen it at Petsmart. It works great!

My westie loves to play with old plastic ice-cream containers. She'll run around for ages in the yard playing with them!!!!!!!!!

Hi
Wanna see a Westie pup have a great time? Give him or her an empty plastic 2 litre soda bottle.
Remove the lable first and supervise play.
Let the good times begin !

TIP for REMOVING SKUNK ODOR FROM DOGS:
My vet says this is better than tomato juice for removing skunk odor from dogs -- plus it doesn't turn Westies pink! I can vouch for it from unfortunate personal experience.
MIX:
1 quart peroxide (3% solution),
one-quarter cup baking SODA.
one quarter TEAspoon liquid detergent -- such as Dawn or Joy)

Best way to apply, believe it or not(!) is to strip of all your clothes, hide the digital camera from your spouse (perhaps you should do that FIRST!), get in the tub with your dog and sponge it all over him or her, massage it in, and leave it on for as long as you both can stand it. Then rinse off with tepid water.

Reapply as necessary. (This also lightened the stain on Roo's beard.)

If your dog gets wet, even months down the line, you might smell that smell again. Pull out this solution and reapply.

Good luck!

Be very careful on how much you feed them because they can gain weight in a snap. my dog's leaning towards kinda chunky!

If you are getting a new westie here's some advice:
they like balls, stuffed animals and shoes.
They like to lick a lot and bark at anything. Grooming can be a hassle so make sure you get a groomer right away.
Taking westies to "puppy class" is fun. my 6 month old westie is already trained with tricks like stay, come, sit, and down. They are very easy to train.
Lastly,
make sure you research this breed because you might think they are cute at 2 mo. but they have hidden characteristics!!

I recently read a report about dogs eating grapes or raisins. Apparently they can be very toxic to dogs, and have been know to result in death in some cases. I don't know about you, but we feed our furbabies grapes and they love them. The occasional one is OK but if they get hold of a whole bunch it can have deadly results. So, be very careful, we all know what little thieves they can be when our backs are turned..ours are anyway when it comes to favorite treats. I can provide a link if anyone wants it.

In Southern California, could help transport by car, ## of miles would be flexible, depending on day.

Use Golddigger e-mail address on weekend.
Thanks. Pam

Our Calley was tormented by allergies until we brought her to the UW Vet Teaching Hospital where they discovered that she had a fungal and bacterial skin infection. We've been treating her for that and she is now virtually itch free, without steroids or anti-hestimines.
