Between baths Vote for this post

My Mac sures gets to stink from time-to-time and people keep saying he smells doggy. I tell them he is a dog and sometimes he should smell like that. My question is - what do you recommend I use to clean him between water baths? I read about the posting on baby wipes and think that is a good idea, but I remember reading somewhere that you use either corn starch or some other form of dry material to clean our furkids. Any info would be much appreciated before I loose all my friends because Mac smells doggy.

Hi VAL! My Mac almost never gets a water bath, I learned "dry bathing" at dog shows, and you can find in in that Ruth Faherty book, "Westies from Head to Tail" that everyone was talking about a while back.

If you don't have access to grooming powder, buy corn starch baby powder. It works great, work it into the coat, dry, or predampen a little with a spray bottle, then brush it out (if you stand him on a towel its a lot less messy!)

DOn't use regular baby powder thought, the talc is not good for the skin or coat. J&J makes corn starch baby powder, plus I'm sure there is a WalMart brand.

Have fun!

Plain old cornstarch you buy at the store is a lot cheaper and works well, I have used the prepared doggie dry bath stuff, but it smella to perfumey for my tastes. I have also used a spray called No Smell, when they get into something stinky and I don't have time to bathe them. Mostly when the Girlies need a bath, I bathe them in a ph balanced Oatmeal shampoo, It doesn't strip the oil and they are looking and smelling nice again. They get bathed once a month and more if they need it.

Lynda you're a hoot. You always make me laugh. You have a way of getting straight to the point. Cut to the chase. I like that.
