Hi, Too Everyone Here..
I have a brand new "Baby" She was named Haylee, and is 5 years old. She is micro-chipped and tattooed and not had an owner since 2001??? I live in Missouri, and my sister called me about this little gal.. (She is the Animal Control Officer in Mtn. Grove, MO) I have always had big dogs, and was scared to death of how I was too take care of this little girl!!??
My husband and I picked her up in June and have had her to the Vet. more times than I can count!! They were treating her for Kennel Cough, and on Friday after xrays of her lungs and heart they are telling us Acute Congestive Heart Failure!! I would like too know if any one knows about this?? Thank you all and anyone for your response.

KC, I am sorry that I can not help you with Haylee's problem. My old gal Sara had congestive heart failure, but I do not think this was the same thing.

John posted... "KC we think Salix is a brand name Cant find any info on it
john / irene Maxwell"

Do you have the generic name of the prescription 'Salix' or the active ingredients??

Have you talked to your vet about Westie Lung Disease, I am wondering if this could be a possiblility. Recently John lost his dear Toby and Els and Dino lost their Bobby to something which sounded very similar and although the vets did every possible test, no reason was found.

Also, Margaret lost her dear Baxter a year ago to Westie Lung Disease and perhaps could be of some help to you, in either eliminating this as the problem or getting a proper diagnosis.

All the best to you and Haylee, at least she is in good hands now with a loving family.

hugs, Theo and Casey xox

I have printed the information out to take with me about Westie Lung Disease that I found on a web site and about the research they are doing on it. I hope my Vet. understands I am not being pushy or trying to tell her anything, but... I am looking out for Haylees' best interest and Best care we can find for her. Thank you for all your work and information you posted here..

KC, are you sure it's not Lasix ? A lot of people have mentioned that before. It makes them pee lots but helps, I believe.

Zoey here.....my half sis,the Pom, is on Lasix(12.5). She gets 1/2 pill every day. It has almost stopped her coughing. She no longer gets treats that have salt. Usually about 1/2 hour after she get the pill, she wants out to pee. After that, she goes about her normal routine of barking at everything that moves. I think she is a little weird!...

Sara was on Lasix and it really helped with her cough. It was gradually increased as time went on but I truely believe it made things much more comfortable for her. Of course, she did pee more, but I just needed to keep an eye for her to ask.

I'm inclined to think that lasix is the medication used. It is used to treat humans with CHF (congestive heart failure) but I would question the dose of 50 mg. which sounds like a lot for a small dog. Lasix is a diuretic. Pat - Zip & Joey's Mom

DVM = Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Lynda... what we use here as a nickname for our vets.

It's great to see Haylee so active, maybe the Lasix is doing the trick!

Poor pup, never asked for anything except love. Someone must be missing the pup or did it deliberately. Maybe some old person lost it. The acute congestive heart failure may have been to pricy for the owner to deal with too. Unfortunate.
