Re: Brushing teeth
There are actually toohbrushes for dogs. you can get them from either a vet or a pet shop. The vet or pet shop will have toothpaste for dogs, usually a chicken or beef flavour. However, the very best toothbrush is a big bone. A big beef knuckle bone or something like that, the butchers usually give them away free. Good luck. Lynne

Re: Brushing teeth
Good luck with the teeth cleaning! I tried for a while and gave up because Heidi just had to see the stuff and she clamped her mouth closed and like most of you know there isn't a hope in heck of prying open an unwilling terrier's mouth!

Re: Brushing teeth
My vet also said that baby carrots are great for removing plaque. Camy loves them especially in the summer because I freeze them before I give them to her. I also use a doggie tooth brush about once a week and raw bones as well.

Re: Brushing teeth
I just heard of this enzyme pad that you can get that you just rub on their teeth and gums. It supposedly breaks down the bacteria. I think you need to start with cleaned teeth though--but don't take that as gospel.

Re: Brushing teeth
I have brused each of my girls teeth. Tasha would come into the bathroom and jump up on the stool waiting for her turn, later on when age wouldn't let her jump anymore she would put her left paw on the stool and hold the other up. This meant "pick me up". Now as some know Tillie started doing this from almost the first day we got her. I use a babies tooth brush with Four Paws Pet dental toothpaste. One time I reached and picked up our toothpaste and started using it. There was a lot of trying to spit before it dawned on me I had picked up the wrong toothpaste, I had picked up our mint flavored one.

Re: Brushing teeth
I occassionally brush my dog's teeth... especially if I find that they've eaten something nasty. Both Dexter and Fancy LOVE the taste of the C.E.T. toothpaste, so it's not hard to get them to cooperate for the procedure. I have a doggie toothbrush that I use, and also one of those finger brushes that you slip over your index finger. However, I do think that giving my dogs raw marrow bones is the best way to keep their teeth free of tartar.
I hope this helps, Teresa, Dex and Fancy
