Re: poop eaters
It's called coprophagia and is very common for dogs to eat poop. He is looking for minerals and poop has them. Try feeding him kelp in his food.

Re: poop eaters
Lynne, How much should they get? Is this something I would find in a good pet store or a good on-line site (one that has natural supplements, etc?), or is marketed for people and used for dogs? My two occasionally resort to this and it is so gross!! Thanks for any info you can give me, Bonnie

Re: poop eaters
Bonnie,
You can get kelp in a good health food store. I buy mine in flakes or ground. If you get it in capsules it will say how much to give. I usually put a 1/2 teaspoon in their meals once a week, But they get minerals from their raw food, so you may need to up this if you don't feed raw. I also put it in their chicken liver treats I make, about a tablespoon in a large batch. Can you get Missing Link dog food supplement where you live? This has kelp in it too. They recommend for a dog up to 20lbs to give 1 teaspoon, a dog 20-40 lbs 2 teaspoons. I also like alfalfa. I am really big on that. Alfalfa has it all. Hope this helps Bonnie. Lynne.

Re: poop eaters
Sorry it took me so long to reply, Lynne. I was out all day and just sat down to the computer about half an hour ago- need to catch up a bit! We can get Missing Link here. Would that have enough kelp or should we add a bit more flaked or ground? We have a few good health food stores close by. I don't feed raw, but it sounds like a good way to go. I just can't keep up with the rest of my life right now! They do get premium food and treats and raw veggies regularly - plus canned pumpkin (they love that!!) I'll pick up Missing Link tomorrow and hopefully can get to one of the health food stores. One of the regular groceries may have it-a few of them have decent health food sections in them. Thanks so much for the information! It just is so gross when they manage to grab some - iccckkk!!! Now, off to read TC a bit and then off to bed, hopefully to sleep - have to hit the road at 7:00 AM (and I'm not even working!)>

Re: poop eaters
Hi Bonnie,
The Missing Link should be ok. It has lots of other stuff in it that will help. You don't have to go raw to get the minerals etc., it's just what I found worked best for the boys. Whatever works best for you is the way to go. Let me know how he gets on with it. I can sympathsize about your 7 a.m. start. I am usually at the train station by 6a.m. for the train and with the -8 to -14 degree cold snap we have been having here lately it has been wicked standing on that platform! LOL! Take care. Lynne

Re: poop eaters
Lynne, Thanks again for the info- I picked up the Missing Link yesterday, so we'll give it a try! It's back to work tomorrow after a week off. Luckily I only live 5 miles from work and I drive myself(no public transportation from my town to where I work), so I have a relatively short walk in from the parking lot. I'm an "old-timer", so I can park on-site. Most people have to park at lots away from the hospital and the Health Center building(two different buildings, but close together) and be shuttled in, so I have it pretty easy! Sounds like we have a few warmer days coming up so you shouldn't freeze at the station!

Re: poop eaters
Is it his own poop? If so, get some Meat Tenderizer, and put it in their food. Don't know why, but it cured Isabella!

Re: poop eaters
Glen did that for a couple of weeks when we first got him. I switched his food and he stopped. I don't know if it was just a coincidence or something to do with the food.
