Maisie is in the DOG house, been Nawty Vote for this post

I need to Vent, first then Im going to ask for some advice.
Today I got home from work at 7.30 pm, and Maisie had left we a warm present on the lounge floor, three piles in fact, and the darn hose stank like crazy!
WAS I MAD at her, you bet. Now, normally a girl comes during the day to walk her and let her do her "business" if necessary, but today she called me on my cell phone at work and told me she couldnt make it today,
(Ok I know its not really Maisie's fault, if ya gotta go , ya gotta go!
BUT I was wondering if any body has ever tried to get a Westie to use a Litter tray? Im considering Making a Large wooden box/tray and filling it with some earth/litter/ sods -whatever, so if she needs to go she can go in that and Im going to have to bar her from the lounge and keep her in an area of the house that has wooden floors,
ANY help or suggestions from anybody?
She is Always clean when Im home , barks to let me know she wants out, sits by the door and calls me and In a way that I KNOW. Does anybody think its possible to retrain a 13 year old to use an indoor potty??( sheesh I hate the thought) but I cant keep having the carpet soiled, and cleaning costs a bomb.
Jack

OK here goes, (sorry Phoenix for telling)
Phoenix was litter box trained because she was so small when we got her and the snow was deep.
It didn't take long, we just put some paper with her tinkle spots on top of the pebbles that came with it.
Had to use news paper because Phoenix tried to eat the pebbles.

Now knowing about the pebbles I now use something else, (Phoenix has a very small bladder the vet told us)
Anyway we use the pads that you put under a person that is in bed and you need to protect the mattress.
They are water proof, we put them in the bathroom and IF Phoenix has to go she will use that.
So if you want to use these just put some of her (personal) perfume on one and set it where you would like her to go.
Then show it to her so she knows it's OK.
Good luck.

On a funny note, Phoenix followed her litter box all over the yard when I was trying to get her used to going outside.

Thanks Eve, real nice of you to reply,
Ive got some of those puppy training pads, Had them for years(lol since she was a pup) but she didnt need to use them , she got trained real quick to got out, do you think putting them in the tray might do the trick?
I got to get her to add some of her personal perfume to one first though -lol ( have to creep up behind her when she in the garden I reckon-lol

If she is like my Phoenix she won't want the tray to move.
As for the " personal perfume" I use a long handled soup spoon.
Just keep it away from your other spoons :-))
Good luck.

Until I got diabetes I never went potty in the house since I was 4 months old. Mom house trained me as a pup with a throw rug so that's where I went when all the drinking a peeing started almost 6 yrs later. Then the meds I had to take for my itchies caused me to need to go poo during the day and I still used the throw rug. She shut the bedroom doors since they are the only rooms carpeted so the only 'carpet' was the throw rug. Later she put a puppy pad on top so she didn't have to do laundry everyday and I just automatically went on it too. She keeps that by the door I go outside with. Now that my diabetes is under control I don't need to use it while she's at work.

So, if you can contain Maisie to a part of your house that isn't carpeted, then either use an old throw rug or puppy pad, I bet she will know where to do her business. I'm glad you are not really mad at Maisie. I'd be mad at the dog walker tho for causing Maisie stress. I was pretty embarassed when I couldn't hold it anymore and had to do my business in the house. It also doesn't feel good having to hold it so long. Having a indoor potty place just makes it easier on both you and Maisie.

THanks Elliot, Yep Im going to try that, problem is my hallway is carpeted too,I live in a single story bungalow, (like you guys over the pond call single family unit) so it means I got to confine her to the utility and kitchen ( she aint going to like that much , I can see a lot of whining and barking coming up)
Oh well, shes going to have to adapt Im afraid, I would never consider getting rid of her , but a pile of doo doo isnt the best welcome home-lol

Give Masie some dignity!! Get a new dog walker!

You can't expect her to stay home all day and hold it

Jack, Maisie is thirteen. She cannot be expected to be left alone for most of the day. And at her age, she should not be suddenly confined, either. Get a reliable dog walker and invest in a carpet steamer. Lots of us would give their eye teeth to have a pup live that long.

Jack - At her age, I would hesitate to make HER change her routine. Maybe you need to have a reliable walker come twice a day. But if you MUST confine her, please make sure she has plenty of blankets, beds, etc. to sleep on as her old bones won't like the hard floor all day long. Poor old gal - I feel so sorry for them as they age. Give her a hug.

hehhe Daramir has bladder stones and the meds make her pee like wild! So like the above (pads and box) is what I set up in an emergency mom not home or myself so the dog door is shut. Mom is usually home all day and her door open. Sometimes though she does get locked in the house (barking) and that's when I find the accident.
