Stomach Acid

Do your babies ever vomit what seems to be stomach acid? It doesn't happen real often but anything strange always concerns me......

If you mean that slimey yellow stuff, it is bile and it happens when their tummys are empty. I have found that if Jolly drinks water before bedtime and it sits on an empty stomach, she will do this in the morning. One remedy is to give a little snack before bedtime, but I find that if I just take her water away after 8:00, she is usually ok. Still...it happens occasionally. It's not a big worry, unless it happens often.

I give the Girlies a little snack at bed time, these are their special wafers, but it can be a biscuit, a little cottage cheese, just something in their tummy will prevent it. I also give them a biscuit first thing in the morning after they come in.The only time mine throw up bile is when for some reason they won't eat their dinner. Also I'm sure you already know this. but Westies do better with two small meals instead of one.

Betty,

I didn't know this. Looks like my guys will be getting two small meals. Morning and night. I always give them a snack before bed so at least I was doing that right.

I have always given the guys (Westies & Cairns) a snack before bedtime - a good handful of Cheerios or Rice Chex cereal has always helped. I found if I give it at 9:00 or so one of them might throw up bile, but if I give at 11:00 or later, never have a problem. Pat Zip & Joey's Mom

Yes, a lot do it. Give them something like a couple of biscuits before bed-that helps.

I agree with the others. Usually a bedtime snack will help.

Re: Stomach Acid Reply to this Message

A couple of mine used to do that during the night. I started to feed three small meals a day one in the early evening so they have something on their tummy during most of the night.
