Question about a Grooming product...
Was wondering about a product I keep seeing called "The Furminator". Does it work well on Westies?
Thanks, Tracy

Re: Question about a Grooming product...
I have never used the Furminator. But I do use the Mars Coat King. It ads in helping to remove loose undercoat quickly in aid of hand stripping. But be careful not to over do it.As you don't want to remove all the undercoat. You can look at the coat king on the below website.

Re: Question about a Grooming product...
Hey, thanks for the info. The Mars Coat King looks like it may be similar to the Furminator. http://www.furminator.com/ Dakota's never even had his first grooming yet, he's almost 8 and a half months old. I'm trying to get the nerve up to take him and have him get the 'official Westie' look...so far he's got the fluffy ear n tail look. I've never owned a Westie before, so proper grooming is all new to me. I noticed that most people look horrified when I say I like the fluffy look on him, I guess that's a no-no to not care to much if he hasn't got the round Chrysanthemum face look?

Re: Question about a Grooming product...
You should take him soon to be groomed if for no other reason to get him used to it. Myself I don't mind the shaggy look at all, although it is a lot harder to take care of especially in the Winter. You can get him a pet cut so he doesn't have the round head. xxxxBetty and the Girlies...

Re: Question about a Grooming product...
Yeah, I really do need to take him and get him used to it. He has started to get some matting already, and he hates being brushed. I'm trying the treat lure technique to get him to accept it. It works fairly well if I use a really special treat he rarly gets.

Re: Question about a Grooming product...
The furminator looks like it may take off too much. I have never heard anyone talk about it being used on a westie.

Re: Question about a Grooming product...
You might ask the pet store that sells it? Or maybe a grooming shop that might use it or know products. I have not seen it myself. I use the old standby of oatmeal base shampoos and add some of the blue whitening shampoo when I do bath them, which is not often! 2 x a year or so. Nancy :)

Re: Question about a Grooming product...
One tip on the Mar's I have had the 26 blade and now have the 20 blade, much prefer the 20 blade because it doesn't take as much off. You can control much better the amount that does come off vs. the 26 blade. Less is better... Just a thought.

Re: Question about a Grooming product...
One thing to remember....the Furminator does no cutting. It only removes the loose undercoat. When used with the deShedding solution, it does an even better job.

Re: Question about a Grooming product...
I saw an ad for this on the TV the other day. It looks quite good I thought and as I like Barney longer in the winter, rather than minkiefied for the cold weather I though about getting one.
I could evenuse it on those pesky cats!
So what do you all think? yeah or neigh?
