bad hair day..
Oh my - I tried a new groomer today, she lives local and I saw her ad for lessons. I called and signed up to bring Sadler in and take a lesson. I did pick up some tips BUT Mister Man is he scalped!! I don't care for her finished Westie look. Thank god he has a gorgeous coat and it grows quickly. The lady was quite nice but the place is not up to my standards. My groomer of four years is a maticulous woman and so is her shop and all her grooming tools. I'd heard a variety of comments about this place I went to today and now I've checked it out for myself...I would not refer anyone there.
How many of you groom your own Westie's?

Re: bad hair day..
Maggie and I are groomed by a groomer about every 3-4 months. Mom is hand stripping ZOOM! to see if his coat will come in coarse and straight cause it is soft and curled. She has been handstripping ZOOM! since May but it takes a while since he has been clipper cut in the past.

Re: bad hair day..
I take my guys to the groomer once a month. I don't even want to try it myself. I guess I am to lazy. There is one thing about hair it will grow back. Linda

Re: bad hair day..
I groom my three. Taking them to the groomer's just got to be too expensive after I got MacGregor. So, I bought Judy Young's dvd and I love it. I just wish she had demonstrated how short to clip the nails. I never know where to clip them.

Re: bad hair day..
Nails are tuff -- westies have long quicks. I'm not comfortable trying to clip the nails - for the $5 my regular groomer charges it is well worth it to me. I've shed many a tear today - Sadler's cut is sooo short. I know it will grow but he looks so strange and I feel sooo guilty for signing up for the grooming lesson. It was all about me and the fact that I wanted to learn and my own groomer (whom we love dearly) was not interested in taking the time to teach me. I can understand that, she's very busy. Everytime I look at Sadler I think "oh poor baby"..in the back of my mind I think Miracle Grow for dogs coats...it's going to be a long time growing out. His body is fine, tail is a little weird, but it is his face...way too short!!

Re: bad hair day..
I groom my three. It saves lots to do it myself and it's a bonding time for me with my pups. Maddie's breeder helped teach me how to groomer but I still have trouble with the head and thinning out the skirt. To me the head is the hardest to get right.I also do their nails with a dremel and all three do great with it. Your Sadler's coat will grow out soon.I know that's not a comfort but I know how you feel with a bad grooming. I've made my own clipper mistakes.
