Kelsie has been pawing at her right ear lately. When we took her to the groomer, she told us it was wax buildup. After grooming her, she put something in to help dry up the wax and it worked for a while but now she's back to pawing at it. Do you think a little peroxide would help? I've used it in my own ears from time to time.

Maisey has ear problems. She's had two yeast infections in her ears. The vet told me it's very common for Westies to have ear issues. They recommended cleaning out her ears at least once a week and using ear cleaner. The ear cleaner is about $5-$7. It smells awful and it makes them look oily, but it does work. I must confess, I don't clean out her ears as often as I should, but I check her ears daily. If they look like they need a cleaning, I clean them out.

Check her ears. Her pawing at them could mean she has an issue. If it's an infection, you'll know. Her ears will be bright red and there will be an awful smell coming out of them. Use a q-tip to remove some of the wax. If it's bloody and a really dark black color, she probably has an infection. Also, if she doesn't want you anywhere near her ears or starts whining, she probably has an infection. These are all of the things Maisey did when she had her two infections.

If she continues to paw, I would take her to the vet. She may have something that a groomer can't identify. The vet gave Maisey some medicine to put in her ear for two weeks and her issues cleared up really fast.

Good luck!

I've checked Kelsie's ears regularly and there is no smell and they don't look dirty at all. A friend told be to try homeopathic ear drops so this morning I bought some and put a couple drops in her ear. She didn't mind it a bit and she's snoring away of the patio right now. Hope that did the trick, but I'll keep checking. Thank you for your concern. The Terrier Club members are just like a family and I'm grateful for everyone of you!

My vet told me never to use a ear cleaner with alcohol in it.
so I checked the pet stores and none had it so I bought it from my vet. Moshe or Levi nver had any ear infections and I hope they never will.
Poor Kelsie hope she soon get well.
