Camp Lone Star Vote for this post

I couldn't reply to the Colonel Potter posting because that topic was locked, so I had to start this topic. If Colonel Potter had that many dogs come in, then why aren't they utilizing camp lone star that was built for Colonel Potter for this purpose? It is setting empty it is a shame since so many people donated money to build that facility and the "owner" is looking forward to using it to its potential.

I wondered that as well Colleen, I know much of my $$ went to that and yet "they" are begging for foster care, I offered to help withing other groups take dogs in but seems my $$ is welcome with no questions asked but no foster help, I would think any of these pups would love beautiful TX...or GA! Re: Camp Lone Star Vote for this post

Colleen - you of all people should not even have to ask this question. You know as well as I do that Camp Lone Star was never meant for long term housing of the dogs. Foster homes would still be needed, even if they were using Lone Camp Star. The dogs should be in family homes, getting use to the what goes on in a home and prepared for adoption, not stuck in another kennel situation. Camp Lone Star was for short term housing only - similar to the vet quarantine. I have received many fosters that came from Camp Lone Star as have you. If you have a problem with them not using Camp Lone Star anymore, you need to take it to the board, not discuss it here on this board. Shame on you!

Re: Camp Lone Star Vote for this post

Shame on me, I don't think so! That is laughable. Did I ever say it was for long term? NO. Colonel Potter has not used CLS for even SHORT TERM use since it has been finished. Yes, many of us got cairns through what was called Camp Lone Star BEFORE the facility was constructed that would hold 10+ cairns at once. I don't have access to ther Board anymore because I have been deemed "not a friend of colonel potter" which is also laughable. However, with the current operations, I wouldn't want to be associated with it.

I'm curious what the mission of the Terrier Club message board is - I also belong to the Cairn Rescue Mentoring forum and have always found this type of public bashing of a rescue inexcusable.

Re: Camp Lone Star Vote for this post

I know you weren't referring to my post. I made a simple inquiry about Camp Lone Star and was attacked for it, so I wanted to clear the air about what Camp Lone Star is and isn't. Obviously some want to think it IS being used, when it isn't. Especially since I helped physically and financially build it.

I for one do not understand how The Terrier Club can sit by and allow this type of public bashing to go on.

Re: Camp Lone Star Vote for this post

Monika, how can you call "truth", bashing? Maybe since you are on the BoD for CP? There are MANY great rescue groups out there, right now, until the Attorney Generals (NY and CA) finish their investigations in to Colonel Potter, I don't think Colonel Potter can claim they are one of them. Maybe since you are on the BOD, YOU can get Camp Lone Star in operation (sign the agreement) so CP can use it. I know that other rescue groups would LOVE to have such a facility.

I am confused, is Camp Lone Star really sitting empty? We could use such facilities! What sadness for dogs in need, Shannon in CO

Re: Camp Lone Star Vote for this post

Colleen, An agreement means BOTH sides have to sign it, not just ONE side. It still would not be effective if ONLY our BOD signed it. And, btw, it was NOT Col Potter that started this issue.

As for any investigations, just because you complain about someone or something does NOT mean an investigation occurs. I know I am certainly glad that Col Potter has continued to save cairns despite all the spaming.. something over 200 so far this year.... gee, where would they be if all the Col Potter workers had not helped them with both time and money in a structured organization they were familiar with. I know my foster Flynn (picture attached) would probably be dead due to his incoming attitudes (which have changed) and Tulane might still be churning out puppies if she hadn't died from her ear problems that Col Potter paid for the surgery.

There are several Cairn rescue groups out there, I'm sure your time could be better served helping another one instead of sniping at Col Potter.

Lastly, how is it cost effective to ship dogs from Ohio to Texas so they can go to foster homes in the Northeast.

Corinne

Re: Camp Lone Star Vote for this post

I have been involved in this "situation" for some time.

I was involved with the col. potter group for a couple of years. I looked at what I consider to be the facts, made my decision and went to another group to volunteer.

If anyone wishes to know my reasons, feel free to write me offline. I will be happy to share them with you.

Otherwise, may I just ask that this topic be closed here at the Terrier Club? While I agree strongly with Colleen, this is not really the right forum. People come here for various reasons, none of them are to argue publicly.

Respectfully to all involved,
Pam and pups
