KY Dogs in DIRE Need!!
This is a PLEA that you spread this message far and wide in Kentucky and surrounding states. The following shelter puts down 14,000 dogs a year due to irresponsible breeding and pet ownership. Last week they were forced to put down 100+ adult dogs and 50+ puppies - many, many purebreds. Only a few made it out. The following photos are of the ones who never made it out. Two made it out for sure - one was already spayed and a rescue got her. She was turned in by her owner because she barked too much and dug holes. Two rescuers drove from Northern IL to save 10 dogs. SURELY there are closer rescues and shelters that are able to assist a few of them? I believe: Strays get 5 days. Owner surrenders get 3 days.
PLEASE - PLEASE contact this shelter and speak to Angie and let her know YOU WILL TAKE DOGS/PUPPIES. They are not full THIS WEEK due to the mass put down last week - so please help them! This shelter will work hard to assist rescues AND SHELTERS in saving dogs. Its a shame - in a town that spends MILLIONS on horses, they can't help over flowing shelters who are tending to man's best friend. PLEASE - assist this shelter. DO NOT CALL OR WRITE WITH HARSH WORDS! They are doing their best. Now its time to show them ours!
Thank you. Shelter contact:

Cage after cage of puppies... not ONE made it out alive!

A Reporter for Courier - Journal
Jennie Rees has covered the story of Barbaro... perhaps, if we wrote her a nice letter asking if she would take a moment to help this shelter of unknown winners??

Re: KY Dogs in DIRE Need!!
that sounds good Angie, We'll help contact her. ow sad for thoise puppies, they were so adorable. I am happy the others got out or will be out soon. It is to bad in a town that has so much to do with horses that it can;t help the other 4 legged ones too.

Re: KY Dogs in DIRE Need!!
Angie, I've been looking at their website and I have never seen an animal shelter of these proportions, it is HUGE! The staff is HUGE!! And the number of animals going through their facility is HUGE!!! Direct Link to home page is below.
"LouisvilleMetro Animal Services' Animal Care Center receives an average of over 14,000 animals annually. Thousands are brought to our shelter as a result of service requests from the community and many are surrendered by their owners.
Metro Animal Services employs 17 Animal Control Officers who investigate over 24,000 complaints in an average year that range from bite cases to severe inhumane treatment. They drive over 225,000 miles a year covering Louisville Metro's 386 sq. miles. Officers are on duty from 7 am to 11 pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including holidays.
Besides enforcing the Louisville Metro Animal Care and Control Ordinance, the center has a 9-person animal care staff that includes a veterinarian, two veterinary technicians, and two adoption coordinators. The animal care staff spends countless hours caring for the animals at our facility. Many of these animals are placed for adoption through our adoption program or transferred to placement organizations."
It's easy to see that they are using every possible avenue they can to get the word out and get animals adopted......
"We have adoptable animals featured daily on Metro TV Channel 25 on The Pet Connection. Pet Showcase TV commercials air throughout the day on various channels" http://www.louisvilleky.gov/MetroTV/default.htm

Re: KY Dogs in DIRE Need!!
I'm going to contact a group here that brought back dogs from Katrina. I don't know if they will be able to help, but I will try anyway. There are waiting lists here for smaller dogs, so maybe we can do something to help.
Will also write to Angela Durgasingh and Jennie Rees.
