Our former foster, Petey Vote for this post

now known as Merlin--lives in downtown Chicago.

We fostered Petey for Cairn Rescue USA--a great group of folks--but will talk more of that later.

This little guy was saved by Dr. Tolliver, in MO. He got out of the "breeding facility" at a young age--thanks to CRUSA. He did not have to endure much of the bad life.

But, I would say that Petey is now certainly living the great life. Hey, do you think they might need a Nanny for him?

I am posting a site that one of the brilliant web developers creates for the CRUSA dogs. Her name is Andrea and she amazes me (a techie wannabe)

Take a look at Petey's new digs!

If you feel the need to foster, please let me know. I can direct you to the right spot! All rescue groups are ALWAYS in need of foster homes, of folks to help in a myriad of ways and, of course, money! CRUSA is no different!

I am doing all sorts of things with them--cannot foster right now--so am working on Petfinder's, on sewing some bandanas, making some cards, coming up with ideas and items to help with fundraising, and on and on. So there is a lot of need, in case anyone wants to help out.

I will tell you some more about CRUSA in the next post but want you to see how Petey/Merlin is doing now!

Way to go CRUSA!

It takes lots of folks to help save a dog from life in a mill. Sometimes it begins with a vet. Petey's journey to his new (and wonderful) life began with Dr. Tolliver, in MO. CRUSA has been working with Dr. T since late spring, early summer. Thus far we have gotten 34 dogs from her. She is great! Of course, not all of them are as young as Petey/Merlin nor as healthy. Thus far, this hearty band of Cairn rescuers has been able to save 155 dogs this year; including the 34 from Dr. T.

There are always more pups in need and always a need for more volunteers and, of course, for money to save them. One good thing to rememeber is that a puppy does not (generally) cost as much for vetting as a dog that has been in the mill for a long time--they simply have not had to suffer in bad health. Some folks have asked why puppies are higher for adoption than the older dogs. I have even been asked why there is an adoption fee at all--when they might not cost as much to vet.

Here is the simple answer--and it is basic math----while the puppy might not cost as much to vet and get ready for adoption, MOST of the other dogs will and the adoption fee for a puppy can help cover those costs. Of course, sometimes, a puppy comes in that has a lot wrong with it and we try our best to save that pup too!

If you would like to see the financials for CRUSA, go to the site below. These are copies of the paperwork filed with the goverment annually since the groups' inception. While I do not pretend to understand much of the language on the tax forms, I can do the math and can see that there is a lot of working "on a wing and a prayer"--or however that saying goes.

Please watch for further updates on other dogs of interest from CRUSA.

My favorite photo is where he is biting the ear of the jackrabbit. Now that is PETEY?MERLIN's personality to a "T". As always, we fell in love with this little guy! It is bittersweet to see them go but when you know they are going to be cared for both physically and emotionally, then it is ALLLLLLL worth it!

What a wonderful webpage for Petey! He is a little dollbaby. I am so proud to volunteer with Cairn Rescue USA. I assist the group as much as I can with marketing and local events. We will be celebrating the first anniversary of Murphy's adoption on November 6th. Without CRUSA, who knows where my darling little boy would be right now?
