The Namings Poll Results 1

One Minkie's named for a soccer player (Sparky) and Rio's named in honour of a Brazilian racing driver !

Indy already had his name when we got him and we loved it.

Keira is named after the actress Keira Knightley

When I went to get her, she was soft as Thistledown, so we named her Thistle, plus a thistle has prickles and the down is so soft, just like Thistle, soft and sweet, but stubborn and prickly at times.

Picked the name before we had both the dogs.. Lynsal's Pictures of Lily & Lynsal's Sir William of Upper Saddle River

Dugald was one of the names on his pedigree. My Grandfather was Cameron So... Cameron's Bonnie Dugald Willie Kohoutek Cameron..(the comet Kohoutek was visible at the time) Snowshine's Cameron Hamish(Snowshine was required by breeder) Schooner Duff Cameron(Duff for one of the first Kings of Scotland.. Schooer because of Maine) Annie (Breemoor's Anticipation)She was named by breeder.

I picked Finnbeacuase it mweant fair haired little soldier and he was our alpha ,My daughter Andrea picked Elliot and it fit him, he was more gentle and sweet and MArley got his name from Aunty Lynda and Teddie seemed the hardest to pick, but once I saw Theodora, it fir perfectly, she needed a big strong name to fit her big attitude strong but Teddie for her sweet gentle side

Mark had the name Skeeter picked out years ago when we had our first two dogs. Personally, I don't like it, but it does suit her personality!! Smidgen was just a name I thought of that hubby agreed upon. Skylar was a favorite name. McTavish we just went to the phone book and found a name we liked!! Next time around, I get to pick at least one name that I like even if Mark doesn't like it. I don't know how he ended up getting to make the ultimate decision on names. I think it went back to me always being the one who wanted a second, third or fourth dog and I conceded naming rights to him LOL!! He wanted Cujo for our first Westie!! Can you imagine? She ended up being Snuggles, which was a much more appropriate name!!

Johnnymac is named after mum's daddy. I, Kippur, was with name when I came !

Before I got Kelsey I was trying to think of a name. I bought a book with names in it and almsot called her Lily White. I also though about Chloe ,but that sounded to much like Zoey and I couldn't do that. One of my students that year went out to South Dakota with her Grandfather for Easter. They went to a Indian Reseveration and did visit the school there. The children sent letters to her Granddad and Lauren broughtthem to school for me to see. One of the children's name was Kelsey. I liked it and told her I was going to name my new puppy Kelsey. Kelsey's mom and dad were calling her Betty, and I liked that too , but fell in love with kelsey.

I love Daisy's so what better name for a LWD? Her middle name is after her real mom, and me.

Her name was to be Annie Rose, But Sissy fit and it stuck. She was only Annie Rose for a few short days.

We didn't know what her name was. We knew she was a special girl and needed a special name. Our grandaughter suggested Beautiful Girl, so she became BeeGee. Her name fits perfectly, She is a beautiful girl in every way.

Shasta already had her name, we wanted her to keep the only thing she brought with her from her first mom.

Emma was one of the names I had picked before I got her. When I saw her, the name just suited her.

And I sometimes get weird looks when I see Nana sleeps in bed with us - most think we are cuddling with Grandma!!!

I wanted Scottish names for my boys. Robbie is Rob Roy MacDuff. The real Rob Roy had a brother named Duncan. Our Duncan's middle name is also MacDuff. Both are MacDuffs in honor of our dear terrier mix Duffy who lived to 17.

Jesse James got his name for being the bandit-we knew he was going to be a trouble-maker when we were bringing him home :) Bella (Isabella) got her name from a "hot chick from the Sopranos" (Matts choice) and we think it suits her so well...She is very pretty, has a very girly face, and we love saying "Bella Bella Bella" with an Italian accent,hehe... :)

Dexter was named for the writer Colin Dexter, as we are big mystery novel fans at my house. My partner's previous dog was named Wimsey, after the main character in the Dorothy Sayers mysteries.

Cairn was a rescue and was already named.Westie -got from a breeder and named from personality.

As they are West Highland Terriers, I wanted them named after something suitably Scottish. And as an avid lover of history, that's where I drew my inspiration. A famous couple - FLORA MacDonald and BONNIE Prince Charlie. Few people, I'm afraid, pick up the reference, and many ask why they are not Bonnie and Clyde!!!!

My Daughter Picked the name John / irene TOBY

At the time, we got Roo, I wanted another "R" name to go with "Reggie." I tried out lots of "R" names but nothing seemed to fit. Georgia told me that this cute little rescue pup was already named "Boo Boo" and neither of us liked that, so I chose Rufus, which I mostly shorten to "Roo." (My husband spells it "Ru.") He usually gets called "Roo" most of the time, except when he's naughty, then it's "Rufus."

Wanted something unique and of the Scottish heritage. The Loch Ness Monster of Scotland! And the sound of Nessie the Westie just seemed perfect!

I knew when I was 5 years old I wanted a westie - she would be a girl and called Molly. Poppy got her name through a family vote :)

When we knew that we'd been chosen to rescue Max from the shelter, Hans and I had dinner in a diner and wrote names that we liked down on a napkin. Max's previous name was Paqoon (hmmmm...)so we wanted a one syllable name, and since we had a cat named Maggie and another cat named Mosby, we went with another "M" name - Max has suited our Max well! Frau Beers calls him Maxel and we call him that, too. xxxMarianne and Maxxxx

Max was named by the breeder, Sara was named by the rescue group and Casey was named after a good friend

When I was looking for a puppy we narrowed it down to 3 male names. They were Koby, Zak & Logan. Then when we a friend told me that she found one but I had to go to Logan Airport to meet him , I knew that had to be his name. Katie's name was originally Sadie but it just didn't seem to fit a young puppy. We didn't want to confuse her wo we named her Katie because it sounded a lot like Sadie.

Holly got her name because she is a Christmas pup! I saved all my Christmas money and bought her. Heidi was already named when she came to live with me... my mother-in-law had her as a pup.

Both my little ones had names from their previous owners and figured was too confusing to change. Cyndi

I'm going down the alphabet.. Abby, Art (then I realized I would die before I got very far).. Bairn, Coco (Chanel - she was a lady cairn), Duncan Edy and Frankie!

Katie wass named after Katie Scarlett, in "Gone with the Wind".

I did a lot of web search on babies names to choose Kelsi and Hannah's names.

Brands was named after the Brands Hatch race circuit in Britain. On the first day I had her she was zooming around the house and the pattern reminded me of part of the Brands Hatch race track. So naturally I just had to name her after one of my favorite race tracks.

Rudy was named after an old friend. Rocky was supposed to be Quincy. hubby said he looked like a Rocky cuz he was a fighter. Rose our adopted girl was Alexis when we got her. we changed to Rose after a neighbor. by then we realized the R 'theme'. a stray dog was left for us one Christmas. Ralphy was so named by hubby. when we had a chance at a girl puppy from our breeder, it was during rainy season. thus Rainey was so named. and it poured buckets the day we picked her up at the breeders house.

My hubby named him curly of course it was to be my dog and I was to name him did I get the chance NO.I would of like to name him scout or lowrider LOL or Harley. oh well I love my cairn terrier and others cairn terrier and westies too .

Full name, Angus McGillicutty McDuff. Angus for his proud heritage, McGillicutty for Lucille Ball's maiden name in my favorite TV show ever and McDuff cause we liked it. All this led to Duffy.

Well, Chip is Chip and thus no name change. When we got Mulligan, Brenda, who is a golfer, had given him that name and since we are golfers and both Mulligan and Chip are golf terms, it was a keeper as well...

Booker came to me with his name and he didn't seem to have any negative connections to it, so I left it, however I felt he needed a Scottish last name and gave him McDuff. He also has the middle initial "C" for my Scottish friend who felt he had to approve my choice of the Scottish last name. I have to admit I thought the name Booker was a bit strange, but we've never met another Booker Westie. However,we have met a Tibetan Terrier and a Lab with that name. He is certainly 1 in a million!

Well, Wesley got named Wesley Wiggles the Westie! Because when he was a pup, he was really wiggley when you picked him up (still is!) and Bailey was a rescue who they had named "Bambi" ( I presume for her big ears! But she didn't really come to Bambi and it just didn't seem like a good Westie name so we decide Bailey was close to Bambi but sound more "westie-ish"!!

I've always like the name Bailey and he looks like one to me.

We wanted to give Wick a Scottish name since his breed originated there but when I looked up all of the names, everything sounded too much like a human's name instead of a dog. So I looked at a map of Scotland to see if I could find any towns or cities with a name that I like and I found a town called "Wick" on the Eastern shore of Scotland. So that is how he got his name!

Always thought that if I had a baby girl I would name her Rebecca, so when my LWD came along it was the perfect name for her Becky. Heather xxx

My daughter picked McDuff from the books and she wanted a name that she could shorten to Mac - that is what we call him. His full name is Hokie (for the Virginia Tech mascot) Highland (obvious) McDuff just because the breeder made us pick 3 names for his papers.

Furby already had his nae and if you saw him when I got him from the shelter, well he definitley looked like a Furby. he had so much hair, and I had people tell me I could change his name. I said , just look at him,,he's a Furby all the way..

Dutchess was named by my niece the day we picked her up. DeeDee was named by me. Daramir was with the help of TC and my cousin!

I got Benny first and named him Benny after his biological daddy. Then four years later when I HAD to have another one...I named him Jetts because I LOVE Elton John and I thought the theme was cute. Turns out -- it fits them perfectly!

My mom couldn't decide on a name for me, nothing suited me....after a week, she realized I was a mess because I didn't 'KNOW JACK' about anything...I'd been in the pet store way to long. So she started calling me Jack.

great stories! I didn't get a chance to add Mishy's before the poll closed. Her name Mischief was given because when she first came home as a puppy, she knocked her water bowl all over and I called out "Are you getting into mischief in there?" Her middle name Munkin, was something cutesey I made up when we got her (I was 10). My dad made up Mishy. I don't know why because he can never spell it!
