The Hunter has Awaken
Bailey: It was the early evening of yesterday. Max and I were on patrol ensuring the security of our grand estate. Everything seemed fine, when suddenly my Westie senses told me there was danger afoot. I scanned the rest of our property with my piercing black eyes and there it was, movement in the tall grass on the western border. It was going be a long run, but that didn’t matter, so off Max and I ran into harms way.
As we approached I spied the foul villain, a serpent as low and evil as they come, with two long fangs and strong muscular coils that looked like they could bring down a Great Dane. I signaled Max to hold and watch my back, incase more were about. I began circling looking for an opening in the snake defenses. In a flash the snake shot out at me, it was only my finely tune reflexes that saved me from suffering the deadly bite. Before the snake could recoil and strike at me again, I pounced and grabbed him behind the head. Enraged the snake flashed his fangs looking for anywhere to bite, finding none he wrapped his coils around my forelegs, causing me to fall to my side in hopes I would lose my grip, then I would be his prey instead of him being mine. It became a battle of will and strength, moves and counter moves. It seemed to go on for hours.
Max was pacing back and for waiting for my signal, but I dare not give it for fear of losing what little advantage I had. I was beginning to tire and my strength was starting to fade, but I could not weaken or give in, my family’s protection was at stake. I reached deep within and brought forth the terrier fighting spirit. The snake must have felt the change in me, for in his eyes I saw fear. Then it was over, I delivered the final stroke and the snake was no more. Exhausted, I lay there panting beside what remained of my enemy. I knew my family must be warned of the ….
Dad: Bailey what are you doing; Oh, come on now tell the people the truth of what really happened, if you don’t I will.
Bailey: But dad, Ok, I hunted and killed my first garden snake, but he was a good 12” long. Should I also tell then that when I dropped it on your foot you jumped and screamed like a little girl.
Dad: ahhhh, never mind, just finish up and we will go play. Besides it was a leap of joy and a warrior’s call.
Bailey: Oh well, you guys understand. See you all later.

Re: The Hunter has Awaken
we loved your story, you are so brave....
PS: Mom says that when she was 3 years old, her Dad and Mom built the house that her brother now lives in, the one that we spent the summers in with "Dad", Well, anyway, Mom sat=ys that when they moved in things weren't quite finished, and a garden snake came in under the family room door. It must of herad the noise and slipped out. BUt "Dad" didn't know that and stepped on his robe tie and jumped like a girl. hehehehe, these humans,,,, too funny...

Re: The Hunter has Awaken
I was reading in horror about your adventure when I realized you have a wild imagination. Glad it was just a small snake you encountered. Be careful, hunting is a dangerous job...

Bailey, Hamish was very impressed by your story. He fancies himself as a hunter too, but no snakes so far, just mice and the occasional lizard. Your story was very well written; we hope to hear more of your adventures. Maureen, Hamish and Maddie

Re: The Hunter has Awaken
Great story, I really enjoyed it, and Dad was so brave. Just remember Bonnie almost died from her only rattlesnake encounter....Lillie and Jack (he was only 4 months old) tried to take one on but Mom and Dad stepped in and stopped them. Our little hunters can get themselves in a lot of trouble.
