The Great Escape (Almost) Vote for this post

Yesterday was a beautiful day and when dad got home he set Max and I free into the backyard. We didn’t even want to play ball we just ran around and wrestled with each other. After a while we got bored and wanted to go to the little park at the end of the street. Mom and Dad take us to the big play park almost ever weekend, but we wanted to go to a park now. So it was decided that we would go by ourselves for just a short romp and come back. Now we had to figure away out, we searched along the entire fence line and found nothing, until we got to the far corner. Dad had nailed up fencing around the telephone pole, because the property fence didn’t join to the corner of the other fence and left a gap. Dad had to build it in such a way the utility people could move it out way to climb the pole.

I peaked thru a small gap and saw the opening into the other yard. Now all we had to do was make this gap big enough for us to get thru. There was only one thing to do. “Max look treats.” Max shoved his first his nose, the boards moved a bit, then his head and further still the gap widened. By the time he had worked his shoulders thru it was big enough for me to get in by going under and thru his legs. Then I saw that the way to next yard was about 2 feet above the ground and too narrow for me, Max leaped through with little problem looking for the fabled treats I spoke of.

As I studied and tried to figure a way for me to get thru the last barrier there was the sound of the back door opening. We must have triggered a parental alarm somewhere along the way; dad had come out looking for us. He started calling for us and searching the backyard, Max tried to get back thru the hole in the fence to our side, but found he couldn’t. I stayed hidden cause I knew if we were found out we would be in deep kitty litter. The yard went quiet and we waited. I sneaked forward and peaked out from my hiding spot and saw nothing. I was hoping that Max and I could get back into our yard and just leave dad with a mystery. I poke my head out all the way and felt a set of eyes watching me. I turned my head to the side and there was dad. WE were sooo BUSTED. I tried to slip back in but it was too late. Dad had to remove the section of fencing he put up to get Max back in the yard. He rebuilt it in such away we will never get out that way again.

Then dad turned his attention to us. I thought, “looks like no treats for us tonight and we will be in our timeout spot for a month”. He sat on the ground and hugged us, parents who can figure them out. Well we did get a talking to and didn’t get treats after dinner, but we were good as gold the rest of the night and got a bedtime treat.

Oh, Max told me that there were two fences we would have had to find our way thru before we could head to the park.

Oh Bailey, you must be very careful. Someone could come along, notice how handsome you are and decide to steal you. You would never see your mom and dad again.

Bailey, you and Max were lucky your Dad found you first! It may seem like a big adventure, but it's not good for two doggies to be out in the world alone. I bet even though you were scolded, your mom and dad were very relieved to find you hadn't got too far.
