To the Mattresses with Martha Stewart
Several weeks ago, I promised ED that I would tell you how I was connected to Martha Stewart, and that's a good thing, at least for me, but not so good for Martha! As you may recall, I am on battle #2 with this cancer creep, who doesn't want to leave me alone! On a regular mammogram some calcification was found and a biopsy showed there was a little problem. Well, as of today, I have had 2 lumpectomies and now have 10 of my 25 radiation treatments done. Things are going along just fine, I am not in any pain or discomfort, and I am out enjoying my summer, which means meeting the gals for lunch and buying way too many shoes! I view it as therapy. Anyway, about a month ago, there was a big cancer convention in Chicago, where doctors from all over came and gave reports of their findings and of trials and all that other stuff that brilliant people do when they get together. As a result, the Chicago newspapers were full or articles about different areas of cancer that were discussed at the convention. Due to my experience with cancer, when I see an article in the paper with that word in the title I take a look to see what it all about. Prior to, I would have just glanced over it, but not so anymore. So one day I saw an article with this title: 'Study: Cancer drug helps some patients live longer.' As I start to read, the first sentence starts out, "Patients with advanced head and neck cancer live significantly longer when a synthetic antibody is added to standard chemotherapy." Yikes! I thought, this is about me, better read on. The drug that they were talking about was Erbitux, which was the experimental chemo I took as part of a trial group. It was the drug that made my face and much of my body break out in terrible acne, as some of you may recall me writing about. The doctors kept saying, the worse the rash, the better it was working. They later told me I had the worst rash they had seen. I guess that is good news. Last March this chemo was approved by the FDA for treating head and and neck cancers. The article then went on to say that Erbitux was the drug that sent Martha Stewart to prison. In 2004 she sold her stock in ImClone Systems, the company that developed Erbitux, because of word that it was not going to be approved, which it wasn't, until 2006. So there it is, my connection with good old Martha, if only she would have waited a few more years....... Now, I am off to organize my shoes and see if there is room for any more! Sparkle kisses FGM

Re: To the Mattresses with Martha Stewart
Well aren't you something! I always new you had a connection to the stars but just didn't realize how. That is a good story. Old Martha should have hung on a little longer and she would have made some cash and stayed out of the slammer. Glad your summer and those treatments are going well. All our best...

Re: To the Mattresses with Martha Stewart
Shoes are good. That is one thing that I do not feel guilty about buying. After all, that is one size that remains constant. One can't go wrong with shoes or purses.

Re: To the Mattresses with Martha Stewart
Glad to see that others love their shoes and purses too! A big shoe sale gets my adrenalin running full speed ahead. Kelly, I wear a 7 1/2, and was just wondering what size Martha wears? Maybe she can just ship me those expensive ones that she can afford to buy. I bet she has bigger feet, maybe a size 9, what do you think? FGM

Re: To the Mattresses with Martha Stewart
Ohhhh, you'll have to come for visit when the store across the street has a sale. Twice a year, all their stock of shoes and purses goes 50% off then 75% off. And it's a top quality store for a little place like Halifax.
Talk about excitement . I love my purses too!

Re: To the Mattresses with Martha Stewart
Good to hear that you are almost halfway through your radiation treatments. Could 25 treatments equal 25 pairs of shoes? Sounds right to me!

Re: To the Mattresses with Martha Stewart
I think I remember the doctor ordering exactly that, to guarantee a full recovery! The doctor did ask what I was doing with my days, and hoping that I was exercising. I told him, absolutely, I go shopping at every chance, and also go out to lunch with me friends. I try to clean something in my house, even if it is one drawer, and for more exercise I buy lots of shoes, to get the reaching and bending benefits! Now he checks each day to see what shoes I am wearing. Sparkle kisses FGM and her shoes

Re: To the Mattresses with Martha Stewart
Thanks I did not know about that drug relation with Martha. She made a big mistake . So sorry about your cancer I was lucky mine was benign .Hope all goes well with you and that it soon be over for good. Well ,so glad to hear there are many shoe nuts here. My husband tells me I am shoe crazy.I guess he is right I refused to leave the shoe store at age 4 when I did not get a new pair and only my sister. My Mom left me there for hours I did not move. She kept calling if I was behaving and I kept sitting in the chair till she picked me up later and I left crying the shoe store.

How can a person survive with only one pair of shoes? Good thing for Maxwell you don't feel the same about his toys! I think you need to go shoe shopping, and pronto! Sparkle kisses FGM and Rags
