It won't be long now Vote for this post

A quick Molly update, for those of you following my sad saga.

She is not in any pain. We have that well controlled with 2 different medicines. But that blasted tumor is pushing
into her nasal cavity and impacting her breathing. It's also getting so large
she will only eat soft food now.

She's breaking my heart. I look at that
beautiful little face, and she's looking back at me with her happy eyes and I
can't bear the thought of losing her. But we can't let her suffer either.

If
she were in pain then as hard as it would be, at least in my heart I would know
it is time. But I can't take my little girl to the vet to be put to sleep when
she is still is happy - even if she wheezes when she breathes. But it won't be very long now before it impacts her breathing
so much that it will be time.

Every
other time I've had to make this terrible decision, I knew when it was
time. Either the dog was in pain, or had a stroke, or had some other
critical onset of a health problem that demanded instant action. This is
so much different. It's been a slow decline. I keep telling myself if
she's happy - playing ball, barking in joy when her daddy comes home,
eating well - then that's all that matters. But she's sliding, slowly,
downhill in all of those areas.

My heart hurts so much it's a wonder I haven't just imploded. .

I was wondering how she was getting on but didn't like to ask as I know all too well how painful it is.

I knew with both my girls although Hannah was still alert and seemed happy enough she couldn't poop because of the mass in her tummy so it would have been unfair to keep her going but it broke my heart to let her go, especially as I had just let Kelsi go 7 weeks prior.

I will be thinking of you both.

Hello Patti, I haven't been posting on the TC much as my eyes have been very tired, guess it's time for new glasses again! But I have been lurking and I was especially happy to read your last posting here. I'm glad Molly is still having good quality time with you and that you are keeping a close tabs on her pain situation.

We all know the inevitable, but unfortunately we can't change it. I am almost in tears here  knowing the pain you are feeling and facing. You do have good friends to help you and Steve through but also, try to remember how Molly has had the best life and the most caring 'pawents' and that she will always be with you.

Could you please post the photo of Molly that you have on your FB page, she is such a doll and I can't help but well up in tears looking into her eyes.

Theo, I know I've said this before, but you have a very special way with words. Your words have brought me so much comfort so many times throughout this sad journey.

For some reason I have bad luck trying to post pictures here. You are welcome to snag one of my pictures off Facebook and put it on here if you know how. She's a beautiful girl and I look into those eyes and melt into a puddle of tears.

I'll try to post some pictures of my girl on here next, but if it doesn't work then you are welcome to do so if you can.

Both photos are lovely but I especially like this one with her head resting on the armrest. My Hannah used to do that and just move her eyes when I looked at her.

Theo, thank you so much. You picked some of my favorite ones.

That first one makes me mist up every time I look at it. It captures the essence of my girl.

Both were taken with her sitting in her favorite chair. She sits/lays in that chair, and can look up the road keeping the neighborhood safe from squirrels, the mailman, and the UPS trucks.

Allen, Sandi, and Sandra - thank you so much to the 3 of you too. Every person who takes the time to comment helps me a little bit. Knowing there are so many people out there who understand does help in some tiny way.

Its hard to stop the tears welling up Patti...but then why should I ...there would be something wrong if it did not happen ...feeling the love you give Molly and her love for you,you will know when it is time....I get so sad often knowing I had to let Ellie go after her decline...I could have kept her going a bit longer but it was not fair on her the way she was and starting with the seizures and blind also...God Bless Molly...we always question....Why do these cancers happen to the puppers who give unconditional love ?we know how you will be feeling watching her and please know we are here for you always....Love Annie and Gang xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Patti, my heart aches for you and Molly. I know all too well how difficult it is to give someone you love their wings. It just goes against everything we've ever been taught and yet, it is the ultimate gift of love. When you look in their eyes, it's like looking into their very soul and the fact that she doesn't know she's ill is a blessing in itself. Our Kelsie left us know she was ready to go and still, we kept her with us for almost two more weeks--I still feel the guilt of knowing we kept her for our selfish needs, not hers. Whatever and whenever you decide the time has come, we're here for you. Bless you both.
Love, Deb, Emmie, and Angel Kelsie

Our heart aches soooo much.  I still have such pain after 15 years from losing Nikki.  But, I know that my Nikki sent me my Kayla.  I lost her 2 years ago. And, I know that Nikki lead me to rescue work and my Annie.  I firmly believe that all our pups have their paws on our shoulders to guide us in what direction we should go.  I trust my pups.  They will tell you when it's time to let go and they will guide and send you a sign that it's ok...  It's soo hard.  I still cry when I think of my Nikki, Kayla and Annie. But, it feel their presence in my life every day.

Patti, she will tell you when it's time.  Love her and cherish her.  Thank her for what she taught you and gave you.  And, trust that she will never leave you.  She will always guide you.

We are here to help and support you.  The TC is your HOME!!!!!

Patti how heartbreaking for you to go through this
No pup should ever have to go through cancer
One day someone will develop a cure for cancer
and no one and no animal will ever have to suffer again.
Give Molly all your love, Patti and she will
have the best last days of her dear life.

Patti, I know how difficult it is.  It's tough enough when the question of "when is it time?" is very clear to us.  When it's unclear, that's when I have the worst of it.

I'm going through something now with my old rescue terrier-mix Sophie.  She has chronic COPD, has had it for over 3 years now.  It is a progressive disease, and I can only make her comfortable as long as I can, as there is nothing else to be done medically except the steroids she is on.  Just when I get my mind around "it's probably time" she will rally.  She eats well, is bright eyed and wags her tail, but the constant coughing is just, well, miserable.

So please know that you are not alone, and that we are thinking of you and wishing for more wonderful time with you and your baby.

Sherrie

we are so sorry that you all are having to go through this dreadful experience. my eyes are full looking at that sweet face, i know you feel as though your heart will just explode. as someone else said take some comfort in knowing that she has been so loved and will continue to be till it is time, so many pups do not ever know a loving touch or a warm bed. somone said our tears are the price we pay for love, and that is so true and imagine what a sad world without that unconditional love our precious pups give to us everyday. enjoy every moment and you will know when the time comes and you will not allow her to suffer- thinking of you all- l,m,t.

You guys are sustaining me.

I feel so badly, coming here when I'm so down. I've been a member here for a long time, and I remember how many times I've cried through the years, over the loss of our beautiful members. I know how sad it always makes me when I feel someone going through these end of life stages....and now here I am, being the one burdening you with my sadness.

But your messages, they are truly sustaining me. I know I keep repeating this, but just being among people who "get" this is pulling me through.

Theo, thank you so much for posting all those pictures. Once I can get my head screwed on straight again, I need to learn how to post pictures on here.

Isn't the one of her with snow on her fact adorable?! She loves snow! No, we haven't had hardly any snow this year, up until New Years it was really warm here. It was 64 the day before Christmas, Steve went golfing! Golfing on Christmas Eve, in Central New York's snow country!

Anyway, thank you again, for taking the time to reach out and to make me feel less alone. You are all such special people to me.

Patti, you're not burdening anyone. Almost all of us have been through it before, as have you, and we all understand what you are going through. I know you've been there for other members who were in your shoes, that's what being a terrier lover and TC member is all about, sharing the good times and bad, the laughter and tears as we are one big family.

Posting photos is easy-peasy... at the bottom of the message page, there are 4 blank lines, the 3rd one is where you put in the URL for the photo you want to post.

The photo must be on the internet, it can be in your TC album or elsewhere, you just copy the URL and paste it onto the 3rd line and voila... tis done.

I meant to ask do you have a vet you can trust to openly discuss her case. By that I mean when I thought it was time I asked my vet (we've been going to him for over 20 years now) if he was me what would he do and he was up front with me and said he felt it was time. I felt I was doing the right thing but I just needed that extra confirmation. He was absolutely wonderful to me in the final moments and it was of some comfort that her final moments could be with him and myself not some stranger. He was the same vet that cared for my gorgeous Rotti boy (Rottweiler) over the years and the same vet that diagnosed and managed his pain when he was diagnosed with bone cancer aged 8, he was with us too in my boys final moments. And even though we now live further away from the clinic than before we still go to him.

With Kelsi I didn't have any choice the only clinic open that time of the morning was an Emergency Clinic.
