12 week vaccination today Vote for this post

Izabella had her 12 week vaccination today, she now weighs 3.1kg and is doing well. She didn't make a sound when she had 2 injections, and didn't seem to mind the kennel cough syrup. The first thing she spotted was the liver treat jar, I've never given her any but she knew what they were and had her head in the jar pretty quick.

She had a 1/2 dose of the Heartworm preventative injection (lasts 6 months), must be fairly new here as when Maddie was little I had to keep giving her a chew every month as they didn't give them an injection until they were 12 months old. Will be so much easier than trying to getting a tablet or chew down past those sharp little teeth. A lot of the chews these days here are chicken or beef flavoured and Izzy is on a predominately fish based diet.

I am going to give her a dried kangaroo tendon this weekend, Maddie loves them, my older girls did too. Kent said she can have one but to just keep an eye on her. She has already tried to grab Maddie's.

This week I will introduce broccoli into her diet, she already eats carrot and pumpkin. Maddie loves broccoli, she will even eat it on it's own.

Great news that Izabella is doing so well at the vet and eating well.
I never new that you could get a shot for heart worm.
Will ask our vet because I order for Moshe and Levi both from another place that sells it cheaper than the vet for the same thing.
I don't know if you can buy here kangeroo tendons here.
Looking forward to some pictures of Izabella.
Enjoy each day they grow up so fast.

What a good little girl you are Izzy. I've never heard of the heartworm injections here either, will ask the vet next time I see him.

Diana, how big are the roo tendons? I am wondering if a beef tendon would be comparable. I used to get the beef knee bones for my guys but they made an awful greasy mess on the floor (any anything else they laid on when they chewed them). I don't use rawhide, too easy a choking problem.

hugs to you, Maddy and Izzy, Theo

They've been giving the injections here for some years now, it's like anything some prefer tablets or chews and some will go on and on about how their dog had a bad reaction etc, but the chix had them for years and years with no issues. Tablets aren't easy to give, chews tend to be chicken or beef flavoured which is not great for dogs with allergies. A quick injection and they are covered for generally 12 months, Izz had 1/2 a dose so she's good for 6 months. In the long run it's cheaper and easier for me to have their injections when they are vaccinated.

Roo tendons (Kangaroo tendons) vary in length I've never actually measured one but when I was looking online for slightly longer ones the seller said 15cm but some are longer, some are shorter. They are fantastic for their teeth. Foz's vet was really impressed with how much better his teeth looked last visit, he said the roo tendons had really cleaned up his teeth.

Maddie loves them, but she's a bit quick some times so I will give her 2. Izz has had a couple but she's a brat, I had to have a few firm words with her as when I touched her as I walked past she growled at me, so I firmly told her no and she did the same again today and I did the same. Never had a 12 week old puppy growl at me before. She doesn't do it with her food just the roo tendons. She takes ages to eat one.

We'll have to share puppy tips!

I'm  having some crate issues with Allie. We're trying to slowly work through them but wow she hates her crate. :(

I may try posting a new thread, maybe this time it will go through!

Izz stays in the laundry during the day while I am at work, when she gets a bit bigger I will let her out in 1 room of the house with Maddie until I can be sure she won't piddle on the large floor mats in the front room. The laundry has a baby gate on the end and she has a tray with fake grass down one end (the laundry is quite a long room) and she has her toys and food etc. She seems happy enough. Maddie can see her during the day thru the baby gate.

This week I am only working 3 days so she had full days out of the laundry from Saturday thru to Tuesday evening. She still sleeps in there of a night, but I have no problems with her. Maddie slept in there until recently, had to move her out into the main room to move Izz in.

She weighs exactly the same as Maddie did @ 12 weeks 3.1kg. It was quite interesting to compare their weight charts.
