ZOOM! 8/24/05-2/17/16 RIP Vote for this post

ZOOM! died in my arms today on the sofa.  I left work early and got home at 2pm.  He passed at 3pm, one hour after I got home.  We spent one hour together.  The other dogs were outside when he passed on.  I was petting and loving on him and whispering in his ear that it was ok to go that he had fought hard for his life the last 6 months to the date that he was diagnosed with lymphoma.  I told him Maggie and Winston and all his other doggie pals that had passed would be there to greet him.  He kinda acted like he was going to vomit and then gasped, back legs stiffened and was gone...no heartbeat no breathing.  It haunts me in some ways to witness that. I had scheduled the final visit with the vet today at 4:15 but he went on his own on his own terms I guess. I don't know what is harder having to put them down or watching them pass on their own.   I have cried so much my eyes hurt and my nose is chapped.

Oh Pam I am so sorry Zoom has passed on
Another beloved pup lost to that damn cancer.
I know you will eventually come to be glad
you got to hold him in his final moment.
When Iver passed on I was asleep at 2 am in the morning
and I suddenly came wide awake.
I turned to Iver and picked him up as he took his last breath
He had awakened me in the night to hold him and love him.
I am so glad I got that precious moment with him.

I am so sorry, and I completely understand.  I've had 2 of my girls pass at home, when I had appointments to take them to the vets the next day.  As traumatic as that was, I had to turn it around to say, they spared me from the horrible job of taking them to the vets.  They also passed at home and, like you said, on their own terms.  I think there is a sense of peace that comes from the fact that they passed, not frightened but at home near you.

I'm so sorry ZOOM! lost his fight with cancer. That's a great name. I hope you'll return to tell us more about him when you can. I'm thinking of you.

Our Mishy went the same way, in Daddy's arms after he told her it was OK to go. She is no doubt eager to meet ZOOM! and run and play with him. She loved zooming in her youth.

Pam
I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to see them go to the bridge. It was good in a way that he had you holding him and telling him it was ok to go. He was in his home in his loving arms and at peace.

All my love Sir William ^--^ and Allen

I lost my beloved little girl to cancer less than 2 weeks ago too.

We had to take her to the vet to be put to sleep. I agree with you, I honestly don't know what is harder.

I do know the 2 nights before we took her in, I prayed every night that she would just pass away in her sleep that night. That may sound horrible, but I knew the end was near and I just wanted her ending to be peaceful.

As hard as it was for you to witness, I am so glad you were there with him at the end. He left this earth knowing he was loved.

Our deepest sympathies to you and your family.  So sad to hear he's crossed the bridge.  BUT, he did it on his own terms.  ZOOM was a wonderful furbaby and much loved.  We will always remember him and will have happy thoughts whenever we think of him.  Fun free and happy darling til we all meet again.!!!

I am so sorry to hear about Zoom but at least he went at home with you as you said "on his own terms". I've never had a dog go peacefully in it's sleep, I think it's much harder to take that dreaded trip to the vet and then that awful numbing journey home again.

That gasping happened with Kelsi @ the Emergency Vet and that upset me to no end. I'd never experienced that before. Hannah was lightly sedated when she went and that too was upsetting to see.

I found planting a memorial garden helped and now I see the flowers blooming and it gives me good memories of my beloved girls.

So very, very sorry to hear of Zooms passing, Pam.

I feel it would be a blessing to not have to make that decision and have them go peacefully in their own home.  So far I have not yet had to deal with that, so my feelings may change.  If nothing else it was a gift to Zoom just to have you and your love there with him.

Sending our Sympathy and a (((HUG)))--

Jackie, Sammy and Willie
