Curing Cancer Vote for this post

Cancer is on the way out
I heard on the TV yesterday that cancer researchers have a vaccine for dogs
that prevents cancer from metastazing
Every body knows what happens when cancer metastasizes
That means there is no treatment and no hope
But with this vaccine, the cancer will never metastasize
allowing the dog to live longer. Researches don't know how much longer
They have proven that this vaccine works on dogs
and their next step is to try it on children.
The obvious step after that is to make a vaccine for adults
This is as close to a cure as they have right now
Hey Cancer, don't let the door hit you on the ass on your way out.

Molecular cell biology is one of "my things". Haven't run into this one yet. You have a name? If I have time I'll try to find it. The overarching question is, if it works in dogs it "should" work in humans. The Lyme vaccine dogs currently get was developed for, and works, in humans. They couldn't sell it because humans don't want to go every year for the booster. Hence, it's now available for dogs (and it works well). Just seems to be some sort of catch here. Just need to see more.....

The TV station didn't give out any contact information.
I would hope a search on the internet would be able to find this
Also vets have resources to go to when they buy drugs
Maybe they could find this vaccine for you

I found that the news article I heard is on my local station
at their department called Health Link
I watched the video and learned that the vaccine comes
from a company called Panvet in Ireland.
I sent an email to them this morning asking
where I could find the vaccine.
I will probably hear back from them tomorrow

Most of you know I lost my sweet Molly to cancer just about 6 weeks ago now.

Funny thing is, her cancer never actually metastasized. It stayed in the same spot of origin - but it kept growing and growing until its impacts were too much for my sweet girl to bear.

Stopping a cancer from spreading/metastasizing would be awesome! Unfortunately just that alone wouldn't be enough to save everyone - but it would be a huge start!

Cancer sucks. :(

Oh, how I hope this pans out. I doubt it would have helped my Kelsie, she had a blood cancer, but if it can save the lives of others-two and four legged alike, that would be so wonderful!

Wouldn't a vaccine against cancer spreading be wonderful. I would like to know more about it too and how long before it will be available. Thanks for posting this David.

Marie, has Mishy's cancer returned??? :( I hope not, but your post sounded very down, I must get an email off to you.

hugs to all, Theo

prevent cancer... it stops it from spreading so wouldn't you need to have it to get the vaccine? Call me confused.

That's the way I see it too, you'd have to have cancer first but this would mean a higher success rate in treatment.

I still haven't been able to find anything on this subject on the net.

The news video said that the people who created this vaccine
is panvet in Ireland.
I looked up their website and contacted them
asking them to send more information
You can find them by searching on Panvet.

HI Ellen I'll ask panvet that question when I hear from them
I'll ask if it can prevent cancer
but yes from what I understand from the news item
is that it is given to dogs that already have cancer
and prevents the cancer from metastasizing
giving the dog an extended life.
