I always had several dogs at one time so I never looked into insurance. She can check with her vet and find out how well the insurance pays and how good is the coverage.

Good Luck Love Sir William ^--^

Our vet surgery has brochures on their counter.

I never bothered with it myself, here it only covers accidents and very little of the other regular bills. By the time insurance became available here my girls already had existing skin issues so their treatment wasn't covered as it was classed as an existing condition.

I have opened a separate bank account for my current Westie girls and transfer some $$ in there each payday, I will use it for any unexpected vet bills.

Well, congratulations to your sister on the new addition! As a breed, Yorkies are notorious for genetic illnesses and other inherited health issues. The smaller the dog, the more the DNA has been tinkered with to get it that way. It’s not always the case but a lot of bad breeders take unhealthy dogs that have no business with breeding puppies and use them to create little runt, dwarf yorkies that get brutal health problems in the process of being miniaturized for human enjoyment. It’s so bad that if you go to crowd funding sites, I’ll include an example at the end o’ message, you’ll see dozens of yorkie campaigns for surgery and help with medical bills. Some are even trying to raise money for dogs who have already died just for help getting out of a mountain of debt they accumulated trying to keep their dog alive. End rant lol. That’s a topic for another discussion but as you might have guessed, pet insurance is absolutely a must if you don’t want to spend a lot of money out of pocket. So yeah, get pet insurance and for yorkies, they need the whole kitchen sink policy to protect against all the breed-specific what ifs. I spoke to a bunch of other yorkie owners, talked to two vets, read about a dozen review/comparisons and spent way too much time but it’s worth it because a have piece of mind knowing that if any tragic health stuff comes up, my dog is covered. Send me a private message if you have any questions and also I will attach some accurate and helpful bookmarks I used just FYI if you want you can check them out.
