Question on Heratworm Meds Vote for this post

Emmie's been on Heartgard since she was old enough to take it. Now, our Vet is switching everyone to Interceptor and requiring a yearly check to make sure its working. I'm curious to know what you think about the mandatory yearly checking and if any of you give your pups Interceptor.
Thanks, Deb

Sorry about my spelling of heartworm--the old "e" seems to be sticking on my keyboard with all this rain! LOL

That's interesting, because for years my girls were on Interceptor but the vet switched us to Heartgard....they have been on Heartgard for many years now, and this also requires a yearly blood test before they will give the meds.  We have had no issues with Interceptor or Heartgard....I'm just interested to know why your vet switched?

Maddie has always been on Interceptor but when she's due for her annual vaccination she will have the yearly heartworm preventative injection. Izzy has had 1/2 a dose of the heartworm injection, she has the next 1/2 @ 12 months. For the first 5 years my Hannah and Kelsi were on heartgard and then went onto the heartworm preventative injection. All our families dogs now have the injection and have had no issues with it. So much easier and cost effective than a daily dosage.

We have been using Heartgard for years ever since Moshe came here at 8 weeks old.

Our vet also checks us every year to make sure that the owners do not forget to give it to their dogs. I have no trouble that he checks it. Heartgard is suppose to be the best.

Very strange that the vet wants to change. Sometimes vets get a kick back for certain products. Deb.

Hugs and kisses to miss Emmie

My vet said if you use Heartguard all year you do not need an annual blood test.
I do not use Interceptor on Sir William because is has more chemicals in it. he has an antimmune disorder and I feel Heartguard works fine.

Sounds like a way for the vet to get some more cash!!!!
