I have got Chronic Bronchitis Vote for this post

I haves got Chronic Bronchitis the vet lady telled mummy....I let Mummy expwain it to yoo,Annie Here...They did Nimbys XRay without anaesthetising her  so that was one lass worry...the vet said that her bloods were all fine but her heart was slightly enlarged and the lumps, one on her throat and other on Sternum were fatty tissue ...which I did know about and a while back now I had put Nimby on a harness not collar so it did not press on the throat lump...they are loose on outsde not growing in I might add.....I had said if they saw anything untoward to remove the lumps if they had to but no need, anyway its a shock to me and saddened  about all this.poor little gal but she had not coughed today only a couple of times this morning...and she had not coughed at the vets they said untill I went to get her and she pulled on her leash to get out the door!!...she hates the vets reception and just wants to escape out of there!...Which I do understand...so she is on her Noroclav  tablets 1/2 a tablet twice a day and now on Prednicare  1 tablet a day and going back next Tuesday late afternoon to see how she is doing...she has only had about 2 coughs since been back home which is good and of course her dinner which she loved, the vet nurses gave her some food as she had no breakfast...a real challenge from 5 30am this morning,I had to give Andrew his when Nimby was out of sight!...all I can do is the best for her and just pray that she may have the odd spasm of the cough and that the prednicare will keep it at bay...I will ask a lot more questions next Tuesday re the future,we would also like to take her and Andrew away a few nights in Beginning July for a wee break and wonder if the sea air will be better for her than grass or woodland /lake walks...I want to fing out if the sea air will be better for her or not if anyone knows here will be a help...I have also found a 5* hotel for Stiggy to go to when we are away...The vet said Nimby can still go for her walks etc as long as she is not coughing...Its hard to get it together in your mind when our puppers are diagnosed with things but as I say all we can do is give her the best...she is sat in the kitchen as I type wanting food!!....Big Hugs and Thank you for your support and Prayers for my Little girl...Annie and Gang xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Bless you sweet Nimby for being so brave doing the x-rays, you are one top doggo!! Nimby, were you just suppressing your cough to impress the vet and techs or to avoid somefing nasty they might conjure up if you's be coughing I onder.

I'm very happy to hear your little lumps are just fatty tissue, that is a huge relief.

My Sophie has had chronic bronchitis for going on 4 years now.  The prednisone keeps it under control, but of course, that has its own side effects such as increased thirst and hunger.

I have not noticed her becoming better or worse due to the air quality she's around.   I do know that exercise will set her off coughing.

When she was first diagnosed, I tried everything under the sun to find an answer, including a holistic vet, acupuncture, Chinese herbs, you name it, we probably tried it.  We ended up with the Prednisone every other day, and the heavy-duty cough medicine as needed.

I won't lie and say it's been easy, because it hasn't, particularly because I had no idea how to deal with it.  Not only had I never even heard of it in dogs, but no one I know had dealt with it, either.

I'm happy to help in any way that I can, and am sorry to hear Nimby has this.

Take care,

Sherrie

Thank you Sherrie, its a help when you know someone else with a pupper the same ,I keep reading various things on the internet to get my head round this and understand it,Does Sophie cough a lot or is it just odd times ,Nimbys came on all of a sudden a week yesterday,,,I am pleased I got her looked at and did not leave it thinking it would go away on its own though...at least I know what we are dealing with....Its funny you say prednisone  making Sophie hungry...Eric was on that also for his tumour and it made him hungry ....Nimble is hungry all the time...she loves her food!!...now she will be hungry even more LOL!!...Did Sophie start to cough all of a sudden or was it slow coming on? Hugs Annie and Gang xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Annie, the toughest part for me to get my head around was/is the fact that, in Sophie's case, it's never going to go away.  We tried antibiotics at the beginning, but were told this is something we were going to have to live with.

Sophie's cough just basically started one day.  Hers is a loud, honking type cough.  She also sneezes a lot now.  I have yet to be able to teach her what a tissue is lol.

One suggestion is that if Nimby coughs when walking, you may want to get one of those doggie strollers/prams to push her around, so that she can still go with you.

I really hate Prednisone but it's a necessary evil.  Now that Sophie is old (she's at least 15, maybe older), she has to wee constantly from the Pred.  If Nimby is trained to use wee-wee pads, would also make life easier.  Sophie was never pad trained unfortunately, but the good news is that I work from home so can let her out frequently during the day.

The bad news is, it's a hassle for sure, but the good news is, overall Sophie still has a good quality of life.  I'm glad to help you in any way I can.

Sherrie

Annie, not the news I was praying for but at least it's not cancer.
I was worried it was cancer with all the pups we have lost here lately.
I will continue to pray for Nimby that her bronchitis stays under control.
Hugs to you and Nimby

We are so very sorry to read that nimby Sue has chronic Bronchitis Annie. We hope and pray that with the medication she still will have a quality of live. It must be a big shock to find out that there is no cure.We will continue our prayers and hope that the coughing will stay away.
Sea air is great for humans but I do not know if Dogs would too. Moshe was a big lover of the beach and I improved here 98% by moving here. I had light bronchitis and terrible allergies. After 11 years of allergie shots and 4 specialist who handen me steroids to use . You might ask your vet if it is OK to take Nimby to the sea.
Hope Nimby's next visit will be better than this one.
Great news that the lumps are Fatty tissue.
We will continue our prayers for Nimby.
Hugs and love,Levi,Angel Moshe and Yoka

This sounds like what I have, I have the big soft lump on my chest and Dr. George watches it.
When I starting coughing the vet put me on a water pill and I don't cough as much.
He said it would keep fluids from building up around my heart.
I have been on this pill for many years now.
So may you stay as health as I am.
