Am so excited I heard from Levi's Vote for this post

Breeder that told me they have a liter with 3 boys and 3 girls. .Richard would like to have another puppy but I know I be doing all THE work and having to get up at night to let it out.Once I am awake I can not sleep again and must than put more on more ointment in my eyes again. Nancy THE breeder is also retiring two of the Westie moms and I think I would like to have one of the moms to give her a good life here with Levi. Nancy the breeder told me both moms are so sweet and we never had a female before. I also will be teaching again in the Synagoge school again for the school year. If I was younger I would take another puppy but I turn 74 next month and do everything in the house , pay bills make appointments etc, etc, etc If i think about it I might get too old because Westies live longer . We never had a female Dog before so am thinking it is now or never. I sure can wait a few months when those Westie moms retire. Levi would have someone to play with. Am thinking serious about it.
Wish I had the energy for a puppy but I have so much on my plate already and one of those moms might be just right .
Love,Yoka,Levi and angel Moshe

How exciting! A breeder Mama would love living with you, Richard and Levi. Females can be very bossy and demanding of your attention. They like to be in charge or at least think they are. You will treat her like a queen as she deserves and she'll be happy with that. I think puppies are too much work and I'm a little older than your grandkids! My cousin's puppy Max is very cute but he's very energetic and eager for action.

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better and keeping busy. I hope Richard is also feeling better.

Oh Yoka a Westie pal for Levi would be perfect.
I am thinking about an older dog for Sailor.
He doesn't like to play with other dogs but he gets along
with other dogs fabulously.
I just have to decide on a male or a female.

Oh this is exciting news Yoka. I think Robin said perfectly what having a female westie in the house could be like. They do like to be the boss.Very loving and affectionate as well from my experience with our dear Emily.Emily came to us after her second litter , then her breeder retired her. So very happy for your family and good for Levi to get a sis to play with.

An ex-breeder sounds ideal.

My Mum has both ex-breeding Westies a male and a female and they are such lovely sweethearts and all the hard work was done before they arrived. My sister had an ex-breeding Westie female and she lived to the age of 15.

As someone who has gone thru the puppy stage twice now in 2 years it was a lot of work and if I'd have had the opportunity my 2nd would have been an adult, but only puppies were available.

As for females my first dog was a female Toy Poodle and then I got male Rotti (he was the last of the litter) and then I chose 2 female Westies and then my last 2 females yet again I had the choice but wanted females.

Females are wonderful. I have owned both and prefer the girls. I say get a retired mom. It will save you the puppy detail!!

Yoka, I hope you decide on one of the breeder moms.  I think we all tend to forget how difficult the puppy stage can be.  With a dog a bit older and settled, "what you see is what you get" and you'll skip all the chewing and housebreaking.

My in-laws adopted a Yorkie puppy when they were 85 years old.  I tried to convince them to get an older dog, but they insisted on a puppy.  Well, of course when the pup did puppy things, they were upset because of the extra work!

We adopted our Westies Sadie Mae years ago from the Jax city shelter.  She was 14 at the time, and she was the best dog ever.  At that time I decided: no more puppies for us!

Good luck!

Sherrie

Oh wow, that is exciting news! When we got Emmie, we hadn't had a puppy in the house for over ten years and I'd forgotten how much work it is to housebreak and train a pup...Through the laughter and tears, we made it, but Emmie will be our last puppy (I won't go so far as to say never, it has a way of coming back to bite you! LOL) but an adult dog that's in need of a home is a completely different subject. One of the breeder Moms sounds just perfect for you and Richard, but that's up to you. Like you said, you'll be the one doing all the walking, etc. We'll be excited to hear what you decide.
Love, Deb, Emmie, and Angel Kelsie

Re:replies Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I thought about it and am sure I want one of the females Moms. After breeding they deserve a nice home with Levi to play with.

I loved Moshe as a pup but I remember that it was a lot of work even if I did love it but now with my eyes I can't do that anymore.

Moshe was easy to train and he brought so much joy. Never tore anything up just a few teeth marks in the lazy boy chair legs. We bought him lots of dental bones to chew on and chewy toys. He never did anything in the house but I just can't count on that anymore. Thanks so much everyone I will keep you posted. Nancy the breeder told me  it would be in a few months.

Looking forward to it. Just hope Levi will not be jealous.

He is at the groomer now.

 Love, Yoka,Levi and angel Moshe.

Foster was 6 (he is now 12) when he came to live with my Mum he was a stud and show dog and he's a placid little guy, Mollie as you may recall joined Foster in April this year she is 5. My parents are thrilled with them both, neither wanted to go thru puppy hood again.

Today Mum called me on her mobile on the way back from the nearby town and as she was talking she mentioned that Mollie and Foster went along for the ride with her and Dad and that they were laying on pillows on the back seat. They couldn't have asked for a better home than they have with my parents.

How wonderful that Foster and Molly are having such a caring loving home. Both of them are very lucky. Who came first to live with your parents Diana?
Our Levi was also a stud of 2 little girls that she wanted to keep for breeding so she had no use for Levi anymore. He came to us when he was 19 months. He was such a scary boy. He was scared of everything. He lived in the country with only Westies and 2 horses.
If Levi saw a large dog far away he wanted to go home. Levi sure has come a long way.Till this day he is scared of children and he is always looking around if someone is coming. We also had to put some weight on him you could count the ribs. It was the vet who told me he would like him to gain some more weight.. I took him to classes to get socialized a little. Levi has come a long way over the years.
He is such a sweet boy but stubborn at times.lol.

Yoka,

Foster was first, Mum was ready for another Westie after Geordie's sudden passing aged 10 and our groomer/Westie breeder/friend said she had a male Westie (a stud dog) that she could adopt. He's a top little dog, he's not a barker, or a digger, he's such a good little dog, he goes away in the caravan every year with Mum and Dad on their 3 month trip around Australia. He was also a show dog so he's used to everything and walks well on a lead. He's not frightened of anything. He was around 5 or 6 from memory, so they've had him 6 years or so.

Mollie (Monique) came from another breeder, she is 5 and she's a great little dog. She likes everyone but she LOVES my Dad. I never thought I'd see the day my Dad would even take notice of a little dog. I recall growing up when I got a Poodle puppy he said 'that's not a dog'. Talking to Mum tonight on the phone she said Dad had just come back from taking Foz (Foster) and Mollie for their 2nd walk of the day. They take them out in the car with them when they go somewhere. When they come up here for the day they bring them along. It's really nice.

Mum didn't want a puppy.

My sister adopted Lily when she was around 5 from the same Westie breeder as Foster and she lived to the ripe old age of 15, she was an ex-breeding dog and was a real sweetheart. And now of course she has just adopted Zharli the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who will be 5 at the end of November. She didn't want a puppy either.

Go for it Yoka!  Neither of my females were bossy, demanding, or wanting to be in charge. They were very sweet, easy going, and laid back.  I've found the boys to be more affectionate though.
