Look what Izz tried to eat. Vote for this post

Sandra and I were discussing how dangerous it can be when out walking your dog at the park or down the street.

Look what Izz tried to eat. She picked up what looked like a harmless crinkly wrapper it was open one end and she carried it along for a little while but I decided I should check it out as she started to chew on the wrapper. I picked her up and she dropped it and it was a hard plastic toy I presume. She had given it a good old chew.

I am so pleased she didn't swallow it. I'll be watching her more carefully from now on.

So glad you saved Izzy, Diana.
Puppies will eat anything won't they.
When Iver was about 7 he chewed the ear off a stuffed toy and swallowed it.
I was at a loss what to do and very worried for him when he threw it up about
15 minutes later. Little stinker.
I cut the ears and tails off all his stuffed toys so he couldn't do that again.

David, I am always so careful at home not to leave anything laying around as she will even climb on the table to get something. I caught her chewing on a pencil I'd left on the table recently, I was only out of the room for a minute, little imp!

Thankfully she doesn't have the same desire as Iver to chew the ears off her toys, she does love to shake them and chew on them but doesn't eat them.

Allie is at the mouthy stage too. Makes me crazy - I too have to watch her like a hawk or whatever small thing that's on the ground goes in her mouth.

My only saving grace with Allie is that if she's got something unknown in her mouth, I've found if I throw something else near her she'll usually drop whatever is in her mouth to chase down the flying new thing.

Good luck Diana - these little ones are adorable handfuls! :)

Oh my, so glad you discovered what she had before she swallowed it! Emmie's the same way. She'll pick up the darndest things and chew on them. We have to be on our toes at all times, even at her age!
I'm afraid it's not just dogs that do this. I am affiliated with a teaching animal hospital in Virginia and one of their educational owls just died from eating an old towel that had been put in his pen as an enrichment toy. They operated and found lots of bits and bits of the towel. He was a Great Horned Owl and simply wonderful with kids. He made it through the surgery but later died. A hard lesson learned.

Gosh puppies pick up anything to chew on.So glad she is ok and you caught it in time.
I had to be cautious with Maddie as she would destuff her toys. Once she managed to rip a toy open and get a squeaky out of it.She got it lodged in her throat and was choking. I was frantic hearing her gasping. Had to grab into her throat to dislodge the squeaky.Within a few minutes she threw up some small pieces of plastic I didn't realize she had swollowed. I stopped giving her those kind of toys with noise makers in them.Too much of a risk.

One of the worst things people drop and we see on our walks are chicken bones, I suppose they got to KFC or similar buy cooked chicken pieces eat it and throw the bones on the ground (there is a bin but down the bottom of the park) we almost always see the bones on our walk and I am quick to spot them and guide the girls away from them. I wish people would be more considerate and stop littering.

So glad you checked and saw what Izz tried to eat.what a fright. We have never seen chicken bones here thank goodness and when we walk I pay good attention because Levi is always sniffing for food even in the kitchen.
Richard drops medication often I find a pill and I always worry that Levi will eat it.
So far he has left it and I told Richard to use a tiny bowl to put his pills in and make sure the do not end on the floor. We always gave the boys lots of chewy dental bones. It is a shame the ones we bought Iwe can no longer find them.
