We looked on a Florida puppies site and Vote for this post

I was shocked how much they want for a Westie pup. I don't mind if it is a Cairn or a Westie but will look and hopefully find one that needs a home. They wanted 3500 dollars. Way too much for my wallet that does not include a the vet and buy things for that puppie. I will stick to a older one.

How about a rescue?  There is someone on a westie site on Facebook that is in Florida that works with rescue...I could point you towards her if you wish
Hope you are well!

I found out that the breeder from Levi has to retire because of very serious health problems. She has a very sweet female who should give birth to some puppies in a week. Her name is Winter and after the pups are gone she will be fixed. So in a couple months this 5 year old Westie will need a home. This Westie is a very sweet female and I want to give her a nice loving home. Hope she will be a nice playmate for Levi. Looking forward to have a female for the very first time. I told Nancy the breeder that I would like to have Winter. Looking forward to meeting her. All of Nancy's pups are so beautiful.
Hope she finds a good home for Euro the stud also.He is now 7 years and he needs to retire too. I have know Nancy now over 9 years and we email each other often and talk on the phone .I trust her
And will be able now to help her by giving winter a loving home. She worries about her Westies.
Thanks Jennifer for offering help.
Am trying hard to take care of us all some days are easier than others. One day at a time .

Hope you and Katy are doing well too.

Yoka it's ridiculous what breeders want for a puppy.
That's why I am going through rescue for a Westie pup.
I think I can get you in contact with Westie Rescue Southeast
if you'd like.

Thanks for offering help David but I am expecting a sweet Westie of 5 years in a couple months. She should give birth in about a week. After the pups no longer need Winter she will be ours. She comes from Lev's breeder we have been friends ever since we met. If you read the post under here from Katy and Jennifer you will understand.
Hope you soon find a great wonderful pup too. Take care and thanks for thinking of us.

Sounds like a good plan Yoka. Puppies are getting very expensive even here in Australia. When I bought Kelsi (turns out she was a puppy farm puppy) she cost me $650, Hannah was $900. Maddie (late 2014) was $2000, Izzy (early 2016) $2400. But I have seen the prices rise with some breeders since then.

Good luck with your search.

Re: I have some great news Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

I called Levi's breeder we have been in touch often through the years. I told her how some breeders want way to much money for a puppy. She could not believe that someone wants that much money for a puppy. Nancy the breeder wants to retire a Westie girl ( 5 years old) after she gives birth to a litter within a weeks time. So she will be available after all the pups are gone. She is very sweet and a very good mama. Her name is Winter.
Than she told me that she needs to retire her stud called Euro.( he came from Europe). She told me that he needs extra care with his eyes. He has very dry eyes that needs washing in the mornings. His eyes needs drops 2x a day. Euro is 7 years old. Nancy is going to retire she has some big health problems.
Now I am debating which one needs me the most. Had my heart set on a girl we never had a female before but maybe I need to get the stud because of his eyes? I don't know what to do.
She asked me if I new anyone that would like to have Euro he will be fixed of course.
I have enough drops to do on my own eyes 2x a day but he needs a good home with someone that would take extra care of Euro's eyes.
What would you do in my place??????????

Yoka, please be careful when looking online for a puppy.   Many puppy millers sell their dogs that way, to unsuspecting people who are willing to pay top dollar for a purebred pup.  Looking at the web sites, you cannot tell that they are in fact puppy millers.

I do know that there is a group called Sunshine State Westie Rescue, located right in Ponte Vedra.  Also, I believe someone from Col Potters is also located in PV.

Good luck!

Sherrie

Oh Yoka, it sounds like both dogs will need a good home very soon. Maybe the female would suit you better? You have so much on you with your own eyes, maybe someone else would be a better fit for the stud? Winter is a beautiful name for a pup and I guess I'm just partial to females--we've never had a male! I guess all I can tell you is to go with your heart and pray about it before making a decision. Either way, Levi will have a wonderful playmate!

Reputable breeders do not sell puppies on line. Period. We have health tested the parents, and we screen potential owners. Buyers are interviewed, come and visit the puppies and if everything is acceptable, are matched with their new baby. A contract assures that if the pup must ever be given up, it comes back to the breeder. The breeder stays in touch with the new owner and answers any questions. The breeder of one of my 12 year old dogs still sends him birthday greetings every year.

I talked to Levi's breeder for a long time to day and I am taking the 5 year old female Winter in a couple month. As soon as her pups are born and 8 weeks old Winter will be fixed and we will bring her home with us. Hope Levi will like her. Looking forward to that day.
Hope Winter loves traveling because we need to go to our grand daughters wedding on November 6 in Texas. It is a 2 day drive and am taking them with us.

Am getting excited already.
Teachers meeting coming up and school will start again. Will be teaching fifth grate but it is just for 3 hours on Sunday's. It is a big class I know the children already because I was a sub teacher several times last year. Looking forward to teaching again.

Take the girl, as someone who has had dogs requiring ongoing treatment I would take the easy option.

It is time we have a female and as soon as the pups are born I will be counting the weeks.
Am really looking forward to it having a Westie girl. It will be so exciting. Can't wait to see her.
The breeder was 6 weeks in the Hospital with her heart and had big surgeries. Now she is also having trouble breathing so she will retire. Tomorrow she is having more test done.
Am praying for her she is a wonderful friend.
If any wants to pray for her her name is Nancy Hoyt.

Yoka, so will we, until you make the big announcement of her arrival.

Maddie & Izzy's breeder said everyone wants girls thinking they are more affectionate than boys but she thinks it's quite the opposite. Mum likes having one of each, but I must admit I love having 2 female Westies.

Hope all goes well for Nancy.

Oh what a wonderful surprise to read you are getting a little westie girl. I'm sure Levi will love having a little sister to keep him company. Please keep us all posted to when the homecoming date gets near Yoka. Very happy for you.

We hope you get the 5 yr old ex breeding Westie girl Yoka,we rescued Gremmie years ago and she had been used for breeding, she was a real sweetheart...but all she had known was giving birth and not much else ,she just loved doing the things that terriers do ...she was the Cairn who mothered our Border Collie Emma/Suckie sis when we got her as a wee puppy!...will look for updates, also a bit more mature and calmer Westie(if there is one!!LOL) would suit Levi I think rather than a young puppy but thats just my view ...Hugs Annie and Gang xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I wholeheartedly agree with Annie's comment about a more mature buddy for Levi. Foster (Foz) is 12 1/2 and he and Mollie (she's 5) get one really well but he gets a little frustrated with my young lasses (Maddie is 2 and Izzy is 8 months) they are constantly in his face, Mollie is a far better match for him. Izzy and Maddie are a perfect match both are young and love to play, and chase and wrestle and bite one another.
