Update on Nimby being off Steroids Vote for this post

This will be the 3rd week Nimby has been off her Steroids...overall she is doing really well but she has done an odd cough/throat clear about 7 times in all. in the past 3 weeks..ie one of the times was when she had a 1/2 a gravy bone biscuit but then proceeded to zoom outside barking at something so on that occasion it could have been a bit of kibble stuck and clearing her throat..other times an odd cough during the day or while resting,I am wating and listening to her closely but what I do not want to do is wait untill she starts to cough a lot then start her back on the steroids...if it is just an odd time she does it I wonder if better to try and keep her off them or do I start her on them again thinking the cough will be back....I will see over the next few days  how she is...our weather has been really warm but rain set to come with thunder  and then warm again...any thoughts on her would be welcome although if she starts  I will have to ring the vets and ask what dose to start off on again...Its nice to get terrier mums and dads opinions though.Hugs Annie and Gang xxxxxxxxxxxxxPS Nimby has been out a lot to various places with other dogs and smells around  each weekend still and that has not made her cough any more which is a good thing.

Are you able to have a video camera (phone or other) ready for if she does it? If so, record it and perhaps show it to the vet. That is what I've done in the past for different, intermittent symptoms. Is it a "reverse sneeze" or something else? I hope Nimby feels better.

I would not start them again, unless absolutely necessary, Annie.  We hope she continues to be well.

Love and hugs,
Jeanie and Annabel

It sounds like she's doing really well without the steroids Annie..There are all kinds of reasons why she would have an occasional cough--the weather, different environment, etc. That being said, I think I'd wait a while and see if it continues before starting her back on the steroids (I'm a bit prejudice against the darn drug, but that's just me) Please let us know how she's doing and give her a big hug from me and bestest friend Emmie Sue. She's in our nightly prayers and will continue to be there!

I agree with Jeanie, best not start her on steroids again
unless her cough becomes persistent, like 4 or 5 times a day.
It sounds like that is not happening yet

Is it allergy related? I know Kelsi had a bit of a cough later in life and the Vet said it was due to larynx (I think that's what he said) sagging with age. Or something along those lines, it wasn't that long ago but I can't recall exactly what he said but he said as they age things drop a little.

Thank you for all your comments and I am keeping Nimby off the steroids as long as I can and if she gives an odd cough then thats fine...I try and monitor why and when she does it...as yesterday when I came back at lunchtime when she zoomed out of the door she gave a couple of little coughs but I guess maybe in excitement at rushing to say hello Mummy!!...I feel as long as she can do fine and no long spells of the cough then she is better without Steroids put into her....will keep you all updated and Thank you once again it really helps to have other thoughts from you all...Hugs Annie and Gang xxxxxxxxxxxxx

So happy to read that Miss Nimby Sue is doing well and if I was you I would not let one cough  change my mind and give her steroids. I hate steroids was on it 18 month.

It sounds she is doing very well Annie and we are so happy to hear that.

 Hope all goes well.
