Izzy is under the weather.... Vote for this post

Came home today to find several spots of yellow foam some with a little blood in it and Izzy looking miserable, she puked again and again and was huddled and just wanted to be picked up and held which is a little unusual as usually after a cuddle all she wants to do is play with Maddie. She was huddled over and kept laying down and then stretching up, it was sad to see.

So I rushed up to the vets, Kent wasn't there so we had to see one of the lady vets, her temperature is normal, she gave her an anti nausea injection, she has special food for the next 3 days, shown no interest so far.

The little minx puked in the pet carrier on the way to the vet but once I put her down on the ground she looked almost back to normal. I couldn't believe it, but she's not her usual self, she's on the back of my armchair snoozing and Maddie is not sure what to make of it all.

Fingers crossed she is much better in the morning.

Oh Diana I am glad to hear Lzzy is doing better. It is so worry some when they are not feeling good. Sounds like your Vet was able to figure it out quickly. Love Louise, Caesar and Angel Murphy

Aww geez Diana, I'm sorry. My heart is always so heavy when one of the little ones is sick.

Hopefully it's just a passing sickness. But bless you for rushing her to the doctor's! I always get half horrified when I read some of the posts (not here, "out there" on the web) of people saying, geez my dog's been puking blood for days, what should I give him/her?" It's all I can do to not scream at them, "TAKE THE DOG TO THE VET MORON!"

My dogs have always been "bottom feeders", and as much as I try to stop them, every now and then they eat something that upsets the tummy. Here's to hoping sweet Izzy is fine when you wake up in the morning!

Awww....poor baby.  Did the vet say what they think it is? Does she have any diarrhea?  That is so scary....I so with that they could talk and tell us what is wrong.

Big hugs to you and Izzy,
Jeanie and Annabel

Diana I am so sorry Izzy is feeling so bad.Dread when our pups throw up and not know what is making them so sick even worse to hear she had blood in her bile. Maybe she picked up something and ate it on her walk...they can be so fast to lap up something before you can see.
Sending Izzy get well wishes and hope her tummy is better very soon...poor baby.
hugs and kisses ....xxxxx Sandra & Mr.Willie

Bless her little heart...hope she's feeling much better today! All of my Westies have had what the vet calls--excessive acid in their bellies that make them throw up yellow foam if they go too long without something in their bellies. Kelsie was even on tagamet for awhile because of it. We've found that just a little snack every few hours (especially right before bed) usually does the trick. A change in the weather usually was the trigger that set it off.

Izzy refused to eat last night so @ 9.30pm I tucked her in her bed along with her snuggle puppy and blanket. I didn't hear a peep out of her all night.

This morning she was a little brighter but still doesn't want to eat. I could hear her stomach doing somersalts when she sat next to me. Will wait and see if she eats tonight and if tomorrow she is no better will take her back.

When we were at the park on Saturday she did eat some small animal droppings before I could stop her (not dog or cat) so whether that is what upset her I can't be sure. I would rather it be that than something stuck further down.

Thanks for all the well wishes and please keep them coming. I hate to see them looking so sad. Maddie is okay which I am pleased about.

Oh Dianna, sorry to hear Izzy is ill and that she is still ill.
Prayers and Paws crossed she is quickly better.
I know that when I had Iver he would throw up yellow bile
in the morning. i found if I gave him a treat at bed time
that he wouldn't throw up.
But that doesn't sound like what is bothering Izzy.
I hope that she is better tomorrow.

Izzy update Vote for this post Reply to this Message Reply with a quote

Izzz seemed a little better this morning, she ate a little bit of food. She picked up her latex chicken and was running around squeaking it so she must be starting to feel better. She did smell a little whiffy last night so maybe it was just a gastric bug.

Does anyone give their Westie/Cairn anything to boost their immune system on a regular basis?

Just wondering if I should both my girls have been a little unwell in recent months.

We are so pleased Izzy is doing better Diana and sounds like she will be zooming 100% in no time again,I do not give mine anything special just a wee bit of raw carrot each morning but if Nimby has had an upset tummy I give a bit of Brown rice and boiled chicken white meat, just a little....We look forward to seeing a Jolly zooming pic of Izzy again...Hugs Annie and Gang xxxxxxx

I'm so glad Izzy is doing a little bit better Diana.

My Molly was always prone to these bouts. I never could figure it out, other than just the general sensitive Westie GI system. I know you know to feed them small meals spread out so they don't get empty tummies.

Molly would get the foamy vomiting and be off her food for a day or so every couple months. Used to make me so worried every time it happened....but it happened for her 12 years on this earth and not much ever made a difference to it.

Yes she is definitely improving, playing with Maddie again, running around the house, squeaking her toys and eating full meals again. A huge sigh of relief :)

Great news that Izzy is eating again.

My vet told me not to worry if they do not eat but to make sure they drink water. I have used the turkey baster before for water a little at  a time.

My vet told me I could use half a pepsit pill when they throw up foamy stuff green yellow looking.

I walk Levi now with a  shorter lease so I can see better what he gets into. He took for a week probiotics and it sure helped him .Our vet gave it to him 2 times now for a week.Glad Izzy is doing better Diana.

Thanks Yoka. Izzy is so quick when it comes to picking up things, she was attached to Maddie at the time.

If it hadn't been for the blood in her vomit I would have waited a day to see if she felt better but she was so hunched over and looked so miserable that I decided to take her right away.

A friend recommended putting Protexin (an animal probiotic) on her food each day, said she has used it with great success. Thought I'd buy a bottle and give it a try with both my girls.
