12 months ago today.... Vote for this post

We lost Hannah one of the most beloved members of our little family, my little sweetheart. We still miss you every single day and will never ever ever forget you. You were definitely the most vocal and never failed to let me know if things didn't go your way. Your love of snuggling on the couch with me, television, music, walks, squeaky toys and your beloved Tommy the turtle are memories I will always treasure. Watching you play with Maddie @ age 13 surprised me as you could be a little prickly at times, but you were so good with her. We will light a candle in your memory tonight and one for Kelsi too. My 2 sweethearts together.

Your Hannah was so pretty Diana.
The days fly by but they stay in our hearts forever.
As long as the memories are there it makes life easier when they no longer are with us but are there in Spirit.
Thinking of you on this day.
Bless you,
Yoka

Thanks everyone. It has been a hard year losing both my girls so close together and then having Izabella join our family and bring some much needed joy back into Maddie's life and mine too. All my girls have been very different but Hannah would have been the closest to 'human', her bottom lip would tremble if she thought she was in trouble, she loved watching David Attenborough documentaries and if I dared to change the channel she would turn around and virtually glare at me till I turned it back. As Kent said she always had something to say. She loved a cuddle making funny little noises at the same time. She was the smallest but always the head of the household. She would never back down from a challenge, yet she used to suckle on the back of her beloved turtle every night it must have given her comfort, he was never far from her side. Over the years my Mum and I tried to substitute other turtles but she wouldn't have a bar of it, he was recovered and washed and tumble dried so many times.

We had hoped to go to the beach as both Hannah and Kelsi loved it there today (I am not working) but it's wet and overcast so we hope to go for a walk around the neighbourhood at least.

Her love of Tommy the turtle started @ age 7 months. In hindsight if I knew how popular he was going to be I'd have bought more than 1.

Diana, I know how hard it is to lose a favored pet.
I love Sailor and McGinnis but Iver was my heart dog
and best friend. We went everywhere together.
I miss him terribly even after 6 years.

To be honest I loved both my girls equally but with Kelsi (she passed September 21st 2015) she was 16 and really really ill with pneumonia so I kind of expected she wouldn't make it to 17, but Hannah had only just turned 14 in early August last year and even though she had trouble with her hip (from her earlier surgery @ 10 months for Legge Perthes disease) I just naively thought Kent (Vet) would give her something to help her poop more easily but it wasn't until he did an x-ray while I waited that we then saw the large mass in her tummy, it was preventing her from toileting and given her age and earlier pancreatic attacks (2 hospitalisations in just over a month) and a visit to the emergency vet (they didn't do an xray) 2 days before she passed over. I knew then that nothing could be done for her but until I asked Kent those dreaded words 'what would you do if you were me?' and he said the kindest thing would be to let her go, I still had hope. And losing them both within 7 weeks of each other was unbearable. Maddie was so distressed being on her own which is in part why Izabella joined our family. After I lost Kelsi I thought I'd have another couple of years at least with both Hannah and Maddie. Never once thought Maddie would end up on her own.
