Annabel Vote for this post

I'm so sorry I have not been able to get back here to update you all.  This ordeal has been exhausting, but we do have some good news.

The tumor was cancerous....a squamous cell carcinoma, but the margins came back good, and it looks like Dr. Hennessy was able to get it all.  This particular form of cancer only has a 5 to 10% recurrence rate, so that is much better than other forms.

She is feeling good, but doesn't understand about her little tongue. Dr. Hennessy said the tumor had completely obliterated the bone, so he had to take more, than he originally thought.  Because she has no lower, left jawbone and no teeth there or in the front....her little tongue falls out of her mouth and ususally hangs out of her mouth. It was a shock seeing her at first....but just for a few seconds....she is so cute...and I keep telling her how pretty she is. She cannot chew or pick anything up in her mouth, so no treats or toys anymore and I am processing her food, which she never really chewed anyway.

So all in all....we are doing well.

Thank you all so much for your love, care and concern.

Love and hugs,
Jeanie and Annabel

Bless her little heart, we are so happy to hear that the doctor got all the cancer. In time, Annabel will accept this change as the "new" normal and I know you'll make sure she knows she's still the beautiful pup that she always was. We continue to keep her in our prayers as she recovers from this ordeal.

Dogs are awesome. They accept the hand they've been dealt, and they smile and get on with life. Swear to God I wish I could be more like our fur kids sometimes. :)

For those who remember me and my sweet Molly, this is the exact same diagnosis Molly had. Fortunately Jeanie moved quickly and even more fortunately, she had a vet who was willing to move quickly.

Hindsight being 20/20 - I would have done things differently for Molly. The vet who diagnosed her was a new graduate, who was just filling in for our regular vet who had been tragically injured in a farming accident. Through a weird combination of circumstances, none of which are anyone's fault, we lost way too much precious time for my sweet girl.

Anyway, as I watched things unfold for Jeanie, I realized we were likely dealing with the exact same thing. Crazy how life works sometimes! This isn't a particularly common cancer, and for it to hit Annabel literally a year (almost to the day!) of Molly's diagnosis....well, sometimes life makes you shake your head in amazement.

You did good Jeanie. I know it was crazy hard, and I'm so sorry for all the extra stress. But you need to hug that little girl and know you did a good job on this.

Jeanie we are so glad the future looks good.

We are so sorry poor little Annabel has to endure this situation for the rest of her days. It is so sad that our little loves have to suffer so.

Love Sir William ^--^ and Allen

Jeanie so good to see your post and hear that Annabel is recovering well and feeling much better since her surgery.Good news that your Vet got all the cancer and to know it has a very small chance of recurrence.
Willie has lost some teeth and he has a little bit of tongue that shows from time to time...it just adds to his character we think. Hugs to your dear Annabel and we wish you both lots of good days ahead of you.
Hugs xox Sandra Mr.Willie

I am so glad to hear little Annabel came through surgery with flying colors. I'm sure she'll be back to her usual sweet self in no time and not even realize she's different. I bet she looks really cute with her tongue hanging out. She'll get a lot of attention for sure! Best wishes for a speedy recover and many more years cancer free!

Thank you, Robin.  She feels good, and yes...the little tongue hanging out is adorable.  She just doesn't understand...the no treats, toys or especially ice cubes....her favorite!  I dropped one yesterday and she got it.  It kept falling out of her mouth and sliding across the floor. :(  I had an awful time getting it away from her............she has been so brave and precious through this whole ordeal....she is definitely still my sweet baby girl....
